Well, teams and leagues are quite content hiring this guy.  So much for uniform requirements and competitive game fees.

The good thing is that this new uniform commands respect.

With a uniform like that, you can throw mechanics out the window.

That can be fixed quickly.....

How is he as an umpire???

Maybe he's just a volunteer or an emergency fill-in. If it's him or the kids don't get to play, I'm fine with it.

You mean like standing on the WRong side of catcher?
With the OS protector, you don't do the slot. Larry Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

The raft protects your face?

That is a possibility.  I'd rather stick a parent out behind the pitcher that deal with that disaster.

He had the mask powder coated to match the shins

Nice!!!    I finally got permission to post a picture of Jocko working a game.  He wears his powder coated shins with pride on the outside!

I thought I saw a flash from a camera tonight! Before anyone asks, no that really isn't me but we all had to

start somewhere.

Well played! I was muuuuch younger than this guy when I did my first LL majors BB game. I went to one of my nephew's games when he was a kid, and got drafted to get behind the plate. They handed me a raft, an old catcher's mask; and an indicator. No shin guards. I jumped in with both feet and was immediately hooked.

You certainly can do the slot with the raft and you should in my opinion.

that said I don't really have a problem with the picture as posted certainly its about how all the youth umpires look at younger levels

While that is what was used in the AL, it doesn't need to be so and isn't "proper" imo.  If the slot is better with the inside protector then its better with the raft too and the raft does not compromise getting into that position at all.

Wrong side? He is behind him, no?  :smachhead:

Proper raft mechanics are directly behind the catcher, up and over.

Disagree.

Stay in the slot, if you go up and over your head is right behind the barrel of the bat. You never want to be there.
