Ever been HOK at the plate and get frustrated at pickoff after pickoff? Cmon, kid. PITCH THE F**KING BALL ALREADY!

Happened to me with some regularity. Until I worked with a guy I consider a mentor and a great resource. I requested being assigned with him and we pregamed that he would give me some tune-up pointers.

I was going HOK WAAAAAAAYYYYYY too early. After he shared this with me, I expiramented with my HOK timing. The fix, for me, was to go HOK when F1 commits to the plate. And what a difference it made! Thanks Pete!

Took a throat shot Saturday. Hurt like hell. I had my TG on properly. Foul directly off the bat drives my TG into my throat. Had to take a few minutes to walk it off. Never looked bad, but hurt like hell. Still sore to the touch. Problem? I was lazy. Not in my proper stance. Late in a long tourney day, I was HOK leaned over too far. Remember, even when you're hot and tired, to use the proper stance EVERY PITCH, and your tg will hit your CP, not you.

Several hours later. I was very lucky.

Wow!  If you got a mark on your throat, that's must have really been bad.  Glad to hear you're ok.

yep you want to be "walking into the pitch" kind of like the fielders do to get ready -- but be sure you are not too late that is worse than being too early.

Glad to hear you're ok ..... What size TG??

my personal creation. It's 5 1/2". Works like a charm when used properly in the proper stance.

Hands On Knees :)

OK, cause I was going to say if you're HOK set and the pitcher is making pickoff attempts, you're setting way too early, but I guess you know that now.

These kids throwing over to first constantly drive me nuts.  Especially if they're way up or way down.

Ever consider balking the runner over to make it stop?  :angel4:

In my Association they want us HOK When the pitcher gets on the rubber. My back won't hold up doing that so I go HOK when the pitcher gets set.

That's ridiculous!

What is their reasoning?

Both. The BU so he can notify the PU that Pitcher is on the rubber. And they want PU set for anything that can happen. I don't do it. And I haven't been marked off in any evaluation I have had for not doing it. So I just keep doing what I am doing. I am told atleast once a year by a partner that that is what they want though.

Are you being told that by someone you respect?  It's not mentioned anywhere in the evaluation glossary.

That is way too early, your back well kill you in no time. Even going down at the proper time, the constant throwing over gets old. I did s varsity game with two pitchers that would do it to the point that both catchers were standing and telling them to just pitch.
