Wonder what the d-bag said. He had been trying to pull pitches into the strike zone every inning up until this point like a little league catcher. You'd think a Gold Glove winning catcher would know better. Guess not.

Iassogna was not having a good night and Martin did not turn to Iassogna and show him up; there was no reason to toss Martin.  We all have off nights, but some of those were REALLY off.

 

With all of the controversy with the umpires in the last few weeks, I don't think they should go LOOKING for trouble.

So as long as he doesn't turn around, it's perfectly cool to say any demeaning or insulting thing your heart desires. Never mind that the HOLY GRAIL PITCHTRAK even said that it was a borderline call, more out of the zone than in. Nope, as long as you don't turn around, you're golden. Call the umpire a blind dumb###, keep on yapping all you want despite being warned over and over. It's all good. Amirite?

But, I'd be willing to bet Martin was being a little prick for a while and whatever that comment was just was the final straw. Remember a year or two ago Martin was crying that the mean umpire (Laz maybe??) wouldn't let him throw new balls out to the pitcher and that he hadn't earned the right to do that.

A professional catcher should be able to stick that pitch. If that is too difficult, go be a DH or a F3.

Are you sure that's the right chart?  The pitch was borderline inside on a LH batter and these chart show it from the perspective of the catcher and umpire, not from the pitcher's point of view.  I don't see any borderline inside pitches on that chart.
