1st EJ's of the year....

Actually had 2 in this game, but the 2nd was a cluster and I don't feel like typing it out yet.  I'll copy/paste my EJ report when I finish it.

 

MSBL 35+

Top of 3rd inning... I call strike 2 on a Curveball that the batter bailed on.  He mumbles something, I ignore it.

Next pitch, High fastball batter swings and misses.  Strike 3.  Batter starts to walk away and looks back at me "That was a bullSH*# call!"

 

BOOM!  I toss him right there.

 

My partner later told me he thought it was too quick and I should have warned.  Called my assignor and he said the same thing. 

I called one of my friends and also asked my different partner this morning and they both agreed with me.

 

I stand by it.... Thoughts??

Are you saying your partner first told you that you were too quick, then overnight he changed his mind?  If so, what made him change his mind.

My partner last night said it was quick.

Different partner this morning said it was good.

I'm going to have to agree with your assignor and partner for that night here based just on what you've said here, this is mens league 35+, profanity is not going to be an automatic EJ, any comment directed at you in a negative or derogatory manner (profane or not) is going to be an automatic EJ. The way i've been taught is that the call can be as bull $h!+ as anyone wants it to be, as long as they don't say that I'm anything other than a great umpire. Now if you had warned about arguing balls and strikes then he makes this comment then certainly eject. He hasn't left his position to argue balls and strikes, he hasn't taken a cheap shot at YOU, it was a shot at the call which is typically let go. Just my 2 cents, different people handle situations differently though.

This is why you acknowledge the comment, it puts him on notice. He says it's BS at the plate, no big deal. He starts walking and yells it, done .

Bullsh(*& and Horse(*& are the 2 biggest words in baseball and as long as they are directed towards the call - I dont see how you eject for it.  At the 35+ level.

If it is really "adult" ball, then these players should act like matured adults; instead of behaving like punk teenagers with no respect for others.

I umpire and run an adult league. If he complains ay the plate, no problem. He yells it from a distance, he had just jambed it up your butt. That is a toss.

I'm not saying that I would ignore the comment, i would give a "that's enough" for it, but i'm not just going to run him for the comment without giving a warning.

I do a men's adult league as well, and I hear a full range of expletives.  I'm not EJ'ing on the profanity alone, but this is just me.

 

Like many of you implied, if it's done in a civil manner, not making a scene, or jamming it in my rear, it's a "that's enough!" comment from me.   HTBT i guess.  I'm not faulting anyone for EJ'ing if it crosses their personal line.....and that's what it's really all about.

If he said it in the box where only I could hear, I probably would have warned him..... However, since he was walking away and then looked back at me to yell.... that was it.

I'm doing adult league as well and unless I had warned them before, I would probably just give a warning or a stern "that's enough" since he was talking about the call. My trigger is "you" in the sentence. You = BOOM

I can let him jaw at the plate a little, I can allow language at the plate, I can warn a dugout that gets over the top, a guy in the middle of the field cussing for all to hear, gone. I know you guys get tired of hearing this but my adult ball has a completely umpire run BOD. We  have told the managers that that type of thing will not be tolerated. 

On the other side of the coin, I hear repeatedly that many do not like working adult ball because the players are over the top. That is only because you guys are not tossing in tossable situations. Get rid of idiots, the more sane will see the light.

Guys, this is adult baseball, played by adults. Profanity directed at a call or frustration is somewhat expected. A tirade or something directed toward the umpire should not be tolerated. Arguing balls/strikes should be nipped in the bud quickly, though. In this situation I would probably have said, to both benches, "guys, we aren't going there today".
