R1 and R3, two (2) outs. Batter hits what resembles a tennis drop-shot-with-alotta-topspin looper towards the SS (F6). Because it's somewhat in the air, the R1 freezes, having a brain-fart and not realizing it's 2 outs. F6 can't make the scoop in the air and instead scoops it up but throws a handcuffer to F3. Because the F3 did not have control of the ball at the time of BR's arrival at 1B, I rule him "Safe!".

By this time, R3 has crossed home plate (I'm trusting my partner as PU has it) and R1 finally gets a nerve pulse to travel from his shocked brain to his feet, and starts running towards 2B. F4 calmly figures stuff out (unusual for an F4) and steps on 2B to receive the throw from F3, and I rule him "Out!".

Everyone starts retiring to their dugouts, and after the 1BC gives his bewildered BR the business, he passes my PU and inquires, "Run scored, right?". My PU looks to me (I'm more senior) and I rule, "No run scored, it's a force out, not a timing out."

Everyone accepts it, and it didn't really impact the final outcome... but did I get that ruling right?

I had a coach this weekend try to tell me that because the out at 1b was a swipe tag that the run from 3rd should have counted. :smachhead:

And if you read the rule book that the coach reads you will see that he is correct. Ha
