Yes, the Polywools are significantly better than the ultimates, they are worth every penny!

In tried the Ultimates a few years back when I replaced my heather greys and they were not to my liking.  I sold them on Ebay and bought the Smitty's.  If the $$$ doesn't matter, go with the poly wools.  I have never heard a bad thing about those pants.

Buying some new plate pants due to the free shipping on the Honigs website. Is there much a of difference between the Premium and Ultimate Pants besides the waist adjuster?

if u have the cash go with poly wools, if you don't have the money, save up till you have enough for the poly wools, they last forever if you take care of them properly, and look amazing every time you walk on a baseball field.

Honigs Ultimates DO NOT look good and it is very obvious from 90 feet away that they don't match.

They are very expensive because you will immediately by Polywools or Smittys after wearing HUltumates in one game.

Go poly wool all the way. I had the ultimates and the materiel is very odd feeling, and the pants did not fit well.

I have never seen anybody's charcoal turn red. That was a problem with Heather, just never seen it in charcoal. What kind were they?

Are the Polywools from Honigs different that the ones from UmpAttire?

I am aware of ump-attire's shortages BUT not sure why.

Thanks

I bought  my Honigs Ultimates in Charcoal last March.  They lasted until June, because they has turned a weird purplish pinkish hue.  Pics later if you'd like.

They would be interesting. I haven't heard good things about the Ultimate pants but I had never heard this. I have heard nothing but good about their p/w .

I bought the Ultimate's last spring, and wore them and washed them A LOT, which probably sped up the process of them fading.  They did end up turning a purple-ish color, but that was after I would wear them ALL DAY in the sun during those weekend tournaments and wash them at least 3 times a week.  I bought a new pair this year for tourneys only, and a couple PW's for legion, HS, and college games.

The ultimates are for lack of a better word, d0g$hi+. i've seen many of them fade after one or two games. The color does not match the polywools and the material has a funny feel to them, there is no comparison between the two...

With all due respect, I'm curious how long you've held this opinion.

The 2013 version of ourUltimates are made in the USA by the same company making our Poly-Wool's.  That was not the case in past years, and the improvement is significant.  The color is more consistent, the hardware is a better grade, the base patterns the same, and the general worksmanship much better.

Do they match the overall quality of our Poly-Wools?  No, but you simply can't duplicate the feel of poly/wool in a 100% poly fabric.   But they're certainly a much improved option compared to previous versions.

That is good to know that the Ultimate Pants are Hardwick made. I am going to probably need some cheaper pants to supplement my poly-wools next year and I might give them a shot. My GD pants are just about worn out...and my Smitty pants are basically trash because a seamstress messed them up and hemmed them short. Not sure how it happened...I tried them on with gear...but I had to have them let out and now there is not enough fabric to get them to hang correctly.

Aaron, didn't mean to bad mouth the brand, I haven't seen the 2013 model so I have based my opinion on the old model. I am interested to see them. I a die hard honigs guy all the way the quality of your uniforms is head and shoulders above the rest. I look forward to seeing the new ultimates, although I wont be purchasing any, I've worn poly wools for 4 years now and won't go back. Again didn't mean any disrespect by my comment just giving my opinion.

I guess that was the question..... past editions of this product haven't exactly done the model justice.  In retrospect we probably should have gone in a different direction in naming the product rather than just saying "new and improved".

And I truly believe you should give your opinion.  If you've had a bad experience with a product, speak up.  Tell your colleagues, post reviews and most importantly, let us know.

Thanks for the feedback

Looks like the Ultimate slacks are currently on sale - combined with the free shipping promotion thats a pretty good deal.

Honig's has done a great job keeping the PW's affordable and for a few bucks more, the PW's are a no brainer.   Check out a pair of quality made in USA trousers in a good men's store and youre looking at $125 at least a pair.

I did purchase a pair of the made in China (I think) Ultimates and got rid of them pretty quickly.  I wasnt impressed.

I'll chime in. Bought the Ultimates (base and plate) in Heather 4 years ago when I started umpiring (that's the color the local Little League district used).  No issues with fading, ironed up great, washed them a ton (lots of Oregon mud to remove in various shades of black to red depending on the field).  Always washed cold to luke warm water, and line dried.  They were always dry within hours.  BEST FEATURE:  ADJUSTABLE WAIST.  How many of us don't vary 20-30 pounds from year to year??  This season I started HS and picked up some Charcoal Ultimates, and after 52 games and many washings this spring, I've had no issues with fading, they iron up great, hold their shape as if new, and again dry by hanging (sometimes in my truck) within hours.  Will probably get some Poly-Wools next season, because I agree they look just that much sharper.  I have a hunch that if you're regular machine washing with more than a smidge of detergent and beating them up in a hot dryer, then you're destroying the fabric.  That's true with any polyester fabric.  If the tag says, "machine wash/machine dry" ignore the tag.  Don't machine dry, and treat them as if they were "delicates" or permanent press.

Honigs says they'll listen to recommendations, so here's mine:  Put the flex waist on the Poly-wools or have two versions of them (one with/one without).  I bet you'll sell many more of them.  I have a hunch (just a hunch) that the Ump-Attire poly-wool pants were basically a copy of the Honigs (perhaps same factory) with the Ultimate adjustable waist feature added (and perhaps that's why they're not available any longer).  Don't know--I do appreciate the adjustable waist band, and it works great.  Also, fits my psychology.  I'd probably fork out the extra coin for a pair of poly-wool pants I know will last me for 5 years, if I'm fairly confident they'll still fit at the end of 4.
