Sdix Started a thread on the umpire market relating to the NFHS app.

I wanted to get your thoughts on the ArbiterSports Mobile. If you're not familiar it's not an app but a service you pay for and you get emails and texts when you receive a game, there are changes to a game and other things including reminder texts.

I jumped on this and got a 3 year subscription when it first came out. As things have progressed over time I still like it, but...

With the advancement in smart phones and high speed mobile internet has continued the benefit of access to the mobile site has diminished. I'm not exactly certain when my 3 year subscription expires if I will renew. But this is a product which could be made into a mobile app and then I'd see some value in it.

Do you use it and what do you think about it?

I just use the full version of Arbiter on my Galaxy S3 and Tablet......

Like you said, it's plenty fast and reliable.

I like using it. I have an iPhone 4S. I get the texts and email on changes and new assignments, as well as the mobile version. I can do anything with the mobile version that I can do with full access except see a partner who has not accepted an assignment. If something comes up during a meeting at work, I can block the time/date. To me it is worth the $$ to have the access. My organization requires that I log in every day. All I have to do is open Safari and I'm logged in.

I use it but the HS assignor is very picky about arbiter. He will not let anyone check the "Ready to be assigned" block so we can still check our schedules but we do not get any alerts of any kind.

We can not accept or declines games. He will accept all the games for us.

He won't even let half the association even use arbiter at all. He will print out schedules and hand them to people at meetings. We can not even block dates or times. :shakehead:

Does not make sense.

Does the organization pay for Arbiter or does he pay it out of his fees. If the group is paying then all should use it, be able to accept or decline assignments and block dates or schools. If he isn't going to allow that then the group should not pay for it.

Now if my assigner puts a game up where he is in a jamb, he will immediately call and ask if I can do it. If yes then he will go ahead and accept it.

I have not tried the mobile service, thought about it but never when I had enough time to go through the process.

Ouch... it sounds like he's making his own job more difficult.

If your assignor has to pay from hiss fees for arbiter, he should change his fee/dues arrangement to account for this cost.

I just use the full site. It's free, easy, and I have my phone set up to where it remembers all my information and logs me in automatically, so It's not inconvenient or anything.

He should pay for it is he is putting stupid restrictions on it. If the group is paying they should tell him how it is to be used. All he is doing is making everybody's life difficult. If all assignments are on the site then you can check who your partner is and contact him. Of he has a paper assignment and you don't, WTH knows what's going on?

I agree with the comments. He is making it harder on himself.

The thing is even-though we have a BOD and have a official meetings and all he pretty much runs things.

Been the assignor for about 15 years and this is how he chooses to do it.

I don't think he understands the benefits.

Association pays for Arbiter.

I have Arbiter Connected.  I use it on my Galaxy S3.  I'm not sure that I'd renew.  The only thing you can't access is the list of phone numbers of the people in your association.

I pay for ArbiterConnected every year. I pay between $50-100 per association in dues and fees. $7 a year is nothing compared to all the other expenses. It is very convenient but I do think it is stupid that arbiter doesn't make it available for free. Last year there were more mobile devices than desktop devices accessing the web. Mobile is the new default.

My association uses arbiter and we pay for it per member registered, but I automatically receive updates and game changes through my email without paying anything. I have my email set on my phone. It does all the same things as the subscription to the mobile site but FREE.

You can get emails/texts, but you cannot view your schedule, update your calendar, change your profile, log in.  What is important to one person is not to another.

I am able to do all of that with my association. I was under the assumption everyone could. For my association we receive emails about assigned games  and we go on and either accept or deny them on a weekly basis. Then two days before the games we get an email reminder.  After that, the website also allows me to see previous assigned games and it logs how much my paycheck will be for my period of work.

Mine is not normal.

Just to clarify...are you accessing the full website or the mobile site?

Does not make sense.

Does this guy have the last name of "Hitler" with a first initial of "A"?

Think I saw a doc about him on the History Channel awhile back.

On that note, one of my high school groups that just went to Aribter has an assigner with the bright idea that he's not going to let people accept/decline games,  They simply show up on your schedule with the "Accepted on" date showing the day that you log in to check the schedule.

This cannot end well and I hope that he ends up with an INFINITE amount of problems from it through the course of the season.  I have already told him that there are 3 different dates he has me scheduled for that I'm not going to work for various reasons.
