Tournament game, 16U teams.  Pitcher breaks off a wicked curve that catches the outside corner nicely.  I do my strike 3 mechanic...I don't know why, maybe because the pitch was so good!  I immediately correct myself.

DHC sticks his head out of the dugout to ask what was up.  I said, "Sorry, I meant strike two.  The pitch was good enough to convince me it was worth two strikes."

Everyone had chuckle.

(I retrospect, my timing was probably too quick.)

I did it once during a long tournament a couple of summers ago ..........   HC (coach of the team that won it all) says, "Jeff, ...that's only 2" as the batter looks at me in dismay ....

I say ....... "  I know Steve, I know,...I'm just making sure you guys are paying attention!"

The whole field went up in laughter!

Hadn't had the 2 strike ring up happen in a while, but did have the routine strike 3 call just last night. Just called a normal strike looking, batter looked at me and said "that's three, right?". Uh....yea, sure is.

Had this happen to me the other night as well.

While we're at it, I even called a "STRIKE" while making an "OUT" call at first base.  Pretty close play at 1B......I'm in great position, make a good call with solid mechanics and verbalize.......  "STRIKE!"......Luckily it was the 3rd out of the inning, so the defense started running off the field immediately afterwards.  I just ran to shallow RF and thought to myself....did I really just say that?!?!??!  :smachhead:

I will say that I don't think I've ever given the strike three mechanic on strikes one or two, but I have done the regular strike mechanic on the third strike this year.  I wanted a hole to crawl into.

Did that last night..... 11U Bad Baseball, 8-0 at the time.... I do my normal called strike One/Two and the BU turns and walks back to the dugout.

I check my indicator, and realize it was #3.

I don't think anyone but me realized it.

Honestly, have never done it as of yet but don't ask me what the score is. :fuel:

:spit:

What????????  You don't keep track of the score.  :stir

Let me guess, you just stand on the field until they stop playing.  :angel4:

I did it in a college game last Tuesday.  The batter looked like he was stricken.  I immediately realized what had happened and started laughing.  So did the catcher.  I told the batter I'm good for one a year, and there it was.

I usually do it once a year, and I reached my annual quota in mid-April this year.

+1.
