I swallowed my chew before a Legion game.  I threw up right on the 3rd base line during the national anthem.  A memory I'll take to my grave.

I don't chew anything on the field at all. No reason, chew is nasty, gum has no place on a baseball field, and should named from the earth.

I didn't say it had common usage,I said or had no business on a field, big difference. I despise cleaning off fields, benches, bleachers and my flipping shoes. If people weren't so disgusting and knew how to dispose of it, ok, but they don't. And since 1975, but that's irrelevant.

The funny thing is, the only time I do chew gum is when I'm behind the plate.

Don't ask me why.

I stopped when I was using my mouthguard, but haven't worn my mouthguard this year, and started with the gum again.

chewing gum on a field and the proper disposal of, or misuse of afterwards are different issues .....and in your case, I must agree with your sentiments :)

I 100% agree with you about the disposal of gum.  One of my pet peeves.  I always either put it back in the wrapper or straight into a trash can.  BTW I have found the easiest way to get if off the bottom of shoes is to put the shoe in the freezer.
