Hey all,

So again looking at my wish list for the season i am looking to replace some sun glasses (because my normal pair got shattered due to an unfortunate accident ><), but i am looking at a pair of Easton Diamonds with interchangeable lenses and was curious what you would use brown lenses for..im sure i have had them in sunglasses before but are they similar to black lenses in the sense of when you would use them? I know ambers are used for evening/low light conditions but what about brown...

also if anyone has any suggestions on a good pair please feel free to comment.

Bought a pair of the Easton glasses.  Haven't used them yet (bought them in December).

Looking for some cheap glasses with even more tints just for plate work.  Also, looking for a pair of clear glasses.  Had a couple night games last year where I caught dirt in my eye (I wear contacts) and it wasn't exactly a fun experience.

I used the Easton glasses with the interchangeable lenses last season and I really liked them.  They were low profile and looked nice.  The lenses, however, were a little difficult to change.  Difficult and cumbersome enough that I found myself not changing them when I could/should have.   A few months ago I bougt a pair of Under Armour Stride Switch sunglasses.  They have interchangeable lenses as well, however the lenses are attached with strong magnets and are a breeze to change.  They come with with two sets of lenses.  One dark set for sunny days and an amber set for low light conditions.  They also sell polarized lenses separately.  I'm going to try them out this year and see how they work compared to the Eastons.  Here's a link to the UA's:

I keep a pair of blue tinted safety glasses in my bag. Good for night games and keeping debris out of my orbital sockets.

You're selling yourselves short if you're not using polarized lenses in the sun. Not only brown, but cheaper lenses of any color may only be tinted plastic or polycarbonate. A tinted lens is akin to standing in the shade and looking into the sun. All it's doing is making your pupil open up to let more light in because you're blocking visible light with the tinted lens. You need, at a minimum, a lens that blocks 100% UV light. Most do. Start adding polarization, with an anti-reflective coating on the back surface, and now you're talking about a lens that will not only protect your eyes from the harmful rays, but also enhance your vision tremendously.

Personally, I have 2 pair of Oakley Rx sunglases. Black iridium polarized (darkgreay with a mirror coating. "Iridium" is a mirror coating) and VR28 iridium polarized, both with anti-reflective coating on the back. I find the Black Iridium too dark for calling games. The VR28 is a great all around sunglass. Works in bright sun, and isn't too dark if it gets overcast. Vr28 also gives a great contrast.

I have the Native Dash SS sunglasses and love them. Would only replace them with Oakley Half Jacket XLs. I use the black lenses in high light (which doesn't happen to often), yellow lenses for cloudy or low light (which happens 80% of the year, and clear lenses at night (which I almost never use.

I use Costa RN11's polarized, but no mirror and they're amazing for all light conditions. not to dark for overcast days and they dont let much light in on bright days. Fit great with my mask too.

Funny thing. I don't like wearing sunglasses behind the dish. There's one or two fields I work where the midday sun is in the outfield, and until I get one of those sunshields for my mask, I have to wear sunglasses doing the plate. I just don't like tracking pitches with them, and I'm not thrilled with the way they "interact" with my mask.

Anyone use one of those sun shields in their masks?

I had a sun shield on my mask before I switched to the HSM.  It made little sense to me because the brim of my hat was under the shield.  So the shield really didn't do anything except minimize the exposure of the brim of my hat.  BTW I got the mask from my cousin when he retired, I didn't put the shield on it.

I have the Oakley Black iridium lenses that I use all the time in the field.  I do however take them off if skies are overcast.  I may have to look into the VR28 lense.  I don't wear sunglasses to call the plate.  Maybe I should, but I have not tried them under my mask as of yet to determine how well they stay on when taking the mask off.  I don't want to damage a $180 pair of sunglasses.

I don't like wearing dark lenses on the dish. But I do like the yellow ones that I have. Even when it is bright outside. I used to wear contacts and now, since I got lasic, I need to protect my eyes from dust and such. Not a fan of the mask shields. Think they look strange. Now that I have gone to the System7 HSM I definitely would not use a shield.

Trout, why did you delete your last post. I think it would have made for a very good discussion.

Honestly... I don't think anyone has the luxury of anonymity on here. But thats fine. Conversation actually picked up on another thread.

I use Oakleys under my mask and have yet had to push them up onto the bridge of my nose. They stay in place better than any other brand I have used.

I'm pretty sure the frame would stay on OK under the mask. It's also that I don't really like tracking pitches with sunglasses on. I wear clear lenses when I do the plate.

I'v used Oakley Split-Jackets the last 2 seasons and had absolutely ZERO issues while wearing a mask, ...give it a shot Matt!

Rich;

Please don't take this the wrong way , but the bolded statement doesn't really make sense when you think about it  ......

If you wear clear lenses doing the plate, what's the difference if they're tinted, right?  Do you see what I mean?   Just make sure your lenses aren't too dark for your conditions, that's all, you should be fine.   Wearing sunglasses while doing the plate is relaxing your eyes so you're not squinting...try it, you'll be fine! :hi5:

And for those who were talking about black iridium .........black irudium isn't too dark when worn in the right condition.....granted, if it's slightly overcast I can see where it "could" be ....

My bright lenses are the  "OO" Polarized Black Iridium (double polarized is what Oakley calls it)

I know. Sounds weird. When I'm in the field, I love the crispness and contrast I get from my Oakleys. When I doing the plate, I just seem to track better with my "regular" glasses. Unless, like I said, I've got a field where the sun's directly overhead and not behind me. Remember, I'm not talking about interchangeable clear lenses. I'm talking about prescription  lenses.

Has anyone ever heard of sunglasses being forbidden on the stick?
