Did anyone else get the question with the pitching change?  I think it's Virginia and GA Tech.  It just shows a batter standing there ready to hit and the pitcher has already thrown his warmups.  The coach comes out to change pitchers and that's it.

  • a.
    • The defense is not allowed in this situation to change the pitcher because he has already crossed the foul line on the way to the mound.
  • b.
    • The defense can always change to a new pitcher at anytime during the game.
  • c.
    • The defense is allowed to put in a new pitcher in this situation, even though he has already crossed the foul line and has thrown his warm-up pitches. When the offense elected to put in a pinch-hitter for the batter due up first in the inning, the defense may elect to make a pitching change.
  • d.
    • It doesn’t matter if the offense puts in a substitute hitter to lead off the inning, once the game pitcher crosses the foul line on the way to the mound; he has to pitch to the first hitter.

A and C could either one be correct.  The question never actually tells us that the hitter coming to the plate was a pinch hitter.  If he wasn't a pinch hitter, A is correct.  If he was, then C is correct.  I guess since it doesn't tell us that he is a pinch hitter, we should assume that he isn't and go with A?

I think everyone gets all the videos and then 50 random questions from whatever the pool is.

I agree that theres not enough information to answer this question and that either A or C could be correct depending on what the offense has done.  I think Im going to go with A.

The audio on the video indicates that a pinch hitter is being brought in.

Ahh, thanks.  I am watching without sound.

I finished it yesterday and got a 90%.  Most of the guys around here got anywhere from an 88-92%.

There will be a few that I'm very interested to see the answer to.

How did you end up answering the basepath video question?

I can't remember exactly because my brain is so fried from that test, but I think I picked the answer that implied he would have been out if the fielder caught the ball and attempted a tag.  I didn't agree that he was out of his basepath, but I felt like that's what they were looking for.  Who knows?

Hopefully next year I will have to take this test.

No one is required to take the test... Just you need to take it if you want to be eligible for Post season play..So if you think you might be one fo the Umpires selected to work Post Season, then Take it.

Then there is also the catch of requiring 5 years of college baseball experience or higher of your level. 3 years with pro experience.

Many associations require that the test be taken and passed regardless if you will be working DI postseason or not. Best to be up to date concerning the rules you are paid to enforce.

Well, just did my draft of it...haven't submitted my answers yet. I have eight that I have second thoughts on, so...

Was the BI video question the same as last year's, or am I misremembering?

If you're going to work NCAA ball, taking and passing the test is a no brainer.

Not to mention, it shouldn't be viewed as a requirement--it's a tool to get better and to become more prepared for the season. Not only do you get familiar with any new rules, you get to knock the rust off every time you put your nose in the rule book.

Seriously?

I'm no help.  I only scored a 92%, so I got 5 wrong.  I can tell you what I put for particular questions, but that really doesn't help.  And I won't be trying again, either.

I don't know about that.  I'm pretty motivated to stay in the book and I found some of the questions just horrible -- especially the video questions.  And the NCAA seems so proud of the test, which is kinda silly, if you ask me.

I took the NFHS Part I today as well -- scored a 98.  I guarantee both questions I got wrong I actually got right, too.  No answer other than the one I put for either of those two questions make sense.
