I got some crappy old tag shin guards that REALLY need replacing. I would like to avoid spending a ton of money. I typically do anywhere from 8u up to rec ball highscool if that helps.

Suggestions?

Thanks

IMO these are the best value. http://www.ump-attire.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DLGiX3&Category_Code=SHIN-GUARDS&Product_Count=3

I have always liked these. They are comfortable, come in many sizes and as protective as my Wilson Charcoals. The down side is they are bulkier than some so you need might need real plate pants.

Nah. Ken has an inside track. Gets MLB hand-me-downs and just-don't-use's.

Excerpted from the Ump-Attire website

Measuring for Shin Guards

It seems reasonable that umpire shin guards would be measured by their full length from the tip of its top to the tip of its bottom. But that's not the case.

Instead, they are measured by their fit or where they should fit. And where they should fit is from the area where the middle of your knee would go to the bottom of the shin guard.

Out of all umpire protective gear, shin guards are returned more often than masks and chest protectors due to sizing issues.

Normally, 17" shin guards will fit individuals in the 5' 10" to 6' 1" range. However, this is just a general rule. Simply measuring yourself knee-to-foot before ordering will alleviate most potential problems. And if in doubt, always go with the larger size as it's better to have more coverage than to be short in this department.

I have 15" Gerry Davis guards. They fit perfectly.

I also have 17" System 7. They fit perfectly.

These are the ones I have. If you can use the 15" they are great. Very light, very inexpensive and I have taken an 85 MPH pitch on a direct shot and felt next to nothing. http://www.ebay.com/...=item232192feae If you have to bump up to the 17" there is a gap below the knee cap that makes them next to useless.

I also have these. I love them. I love the two strap/strapless knee. While I haven't taken a 85MPH fastball off them, I will say nothing has ever hit my shin or knee and left a mark or caused any discomfort. I'm 6' and the 15" are fine.

The DLG-LITE 17" inch version from Diamond has been re-configured for 2013. We were only carrying the 15" but hope to have the 17" in stock for 2013. If you buy the 17" from wherever, make sure it is the one that has the shell in the area below the knee and not just foam.

The Diamond double-knee DLG shin guards are also a great shin guard if you're looking for complete value. They do the trick for under $40. http://www.ump-attire.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DLG&Category_Code=SHIN-GUARDS

Good. I know a lot of people that didn't buy them just because of that. Ought to be a bigger seller now. I can also vouch for the double-knee DLGs as well. Many of the people in my association use them for both high school and college ball.

Based on the level of ball and desire not to break the bank-I'd take this gentleman up on his offer.
