Dry-Lo Ball Bags

I have a pair for the Dry-Lo Ball Bags which I really like. They were black. But over time they are now getting to be a bit purplish.

Has anyone ever tried to use fabric dye on ball bags.

I am kinda leary that it could bleed through the pants.

I just ordered 2 more Dry-lo bags but would like to keep the others for spare.

As I see it your not going to use them anyway if you dont dye them so why not first order new then dye the old ones then get them wet again and rub on a white cloth to see if they bleed. You will either have two sets of bags or spent a little bit of time and money to try to fix something.

Back a few years ago I got the bright idea that maybe I could dye some of my faded, but otherwise perfect, heather grey pants charcoal and then get a few more years of service out of them. But once I looked into this, I thought maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea.

When polyester materials are dyed at the factory, it requires a special procees that involves extreme heat, special dye, high pressures and toxic chemicals. I was bummed to find out that you can't just throw them in a tub with a packet of over-the-counter clothes dye. If you try that, the dye won't adhere- it can't be absorbed into the material. Any coating of dye you might get would either rub off when you wore it or wash out in the next load of laundry.

Maybe the ball bags are a different material- I don't know. You can be the guinea pig and let us all know how it worked! :D

About hte bleeding to your pants while you always run a chance of the dye bleeding, you can reduce the chances. I know of three ways, there are probably more;

Remove the loose dye by either washing the ever loving daylights out of them

Use color safe chlorox to get rid of the extra dye

Use a dye fixative to help bind the loose dye. Your have to wash it again though

My time is worth more than what it sounds like it would cost to get new ball bags. Even if you work year round...that is a small expense to simply get new ones.
