NCAA is silent specifically to Jumping, Hurdling, and/or diving over the catcher. But the NCAA mad recent changes about initiating contact above the waist in regard to Malicious Contact. So if there is contact above the waist while doing any of the above you could have a MC situation.

Well yes if you thought he did it with the intent of causing harm or dislodging the ball contact above the waist is not always to be ruled as flagrant its just one part of the judgement involved.

Irrelevent to NCAA really, but I thought I'd bring it up... I've decided to start officiating football this fall. At my first meeting they went over the rule changes for 2012.

One of them for NFHS Football is that hurdling an opponent on offense or defense while the opponent has only one, two, or no feet on the ground (IE they are standing or jumping) is now a personal foul 15 yard penalty. If they are on the ground or have any body part other than a foot on the ground it is ok... The Federation sure has come down on this in multiple sports!

I agree. Look at some big schools. They can get 80k plus for a game, plus conference tv contracts, merchandise, NCAA football is going nowhere. And because of that its feeder (HS football) isnt going anywhere.

Although I do know of one HS in my area that suspended its football program indefinitly after a player was paralyzed on the field. 30 yrs later that school still doesnt have football.
