I just want to try to find out what the average person spends per year on uniforms & equipment. You don't need to itimize, just estimate what you spend on equipment every year/

About $2000 CDN this year. I normally only spend about $100 per season on little things, but this season I made a full overhaul. New WV platinum, Wilson Titanium Mask, Wilson Charcoal SG, 6 pairs of GD pants, New Baseball Canada apparel (4 shirts, 2 hats, and 2 jackets), NB base shoes, 4 other jackets, Jim Evans Bag, New ball bags, 4 BCBUA hats, several undershirts, 6 Majestic Shirts, new leggings, and a few other little asscessories.

Like everyone on the site says --- pro gear is well worth the money. I'm seriously considering getting 2 pairs of Honig's poly-wools for next season.

I spent about $250 this year. New CP & Shins , Smitty plate pants, NB base shoes, 5 shirts, 2 under shirts. That's the most I've spent in any given year and I doubt I will top that.

I probably average $500 per year. I do give a lot of hand-me-downs to my Junior umpires, to justify to SWMBO my excess.

"How many umpire sport coats do you NEED?"

I spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-$500 each season. Usually about 10% of my earnings each year. Haven't had to purchase equipment this season other than plate and base shoes, but after 3 seasons, my shock FX is in need of a replacement. The foam padding is starting to peel away, so I am going to pick up a new one. Definitely going with the steel cage this time, I'm tired of replacing bent titanium cages.

The sad thing is that Baseball Canada apparel is manditory for working a national tournament, so they've got you held hostage ($90 per jacket, $50 per shirt, and $30 per hat plus shipping). Baseball Canada sells the rights to the logo to one company, so they've got a monopoly. My one Baseball Canada order was over $500. You can see what I mean at http://www.homerunsports.ca/category-s/86.htm

Here's the thing:

I don't smoke, drink, gamble, golf, ski, play tennis, or have any other terribly expensive habits. The only thing I do outside baseball for a hobby is drive my car or ride a motorcycle.

My wife has a few expensive hobbies/habits, so when I get a dose about my gear spending, I bring up how she spends when I don't.

blue32, can't the pads be replaced on the bucket? Or has the integrety of the cage been comprimised? Just curious....

Im usually a $200 a year guy.......but only because I keep up on the status of my gear and unis.....if they start to fade, snag or go obsolete, I dump them...

Now I'm needing a new mask and shins for next year, and I will replace another pair of my pants with polywools......so next year will be more...

I work 3 different sports. I spend on average about $200/sport. Most of the money goes towards shoes.

i spent about 350.00 this season . about a third of this was on the douglas cp . the rest was a couple pair pants , a pair of base shoes , some shirts and hats , and a second mask .

No, it's starting to peel away from the shell. The coolmax fabric is peeling away from the foam in a few places as well. It's definitely useable for a couple or few more seasons, I just like to get new stuff, and then donate my old stuff to younger umpires starting out. I'm a gear junkie, what can I say? :rollinglaugh:

~$550, I buy a new pair of base and plate shoes every year and rotate the previous ones to the backup/muddy field position and I added two more pairs of poly-wools to lower the amount of washing they have to endure. The amount is a little higher this year with the addition of a new douglas (wife thought I was crazy because my gold is only 2yrs old), and a new set of hockey referee shin guards (my old ones were a little too lightweight for my tastes).

Oh yea, added a officials choice maroon shirt...j/k

I budget abot 5% of last year's earnings across all sports (about $600 this year). I will usually buy 1 - 2 pants (one plate, one base) and a navy and a light blue shirt and a hat. I also count on gifts from Santa for euipment (last year was a platinum CP and shin guards).

Football & wrestling are easier on the pocketbook. 2 or 3 whistles each and maybe a shirt each.

Between football, softball and baseball I spend about 400-500 a year. Baseball is by far the most expense but it bleeds over to softball ( shirts, pants and shoes ). I consider it a " love offering " because I love being outside and doing what I do.
