Knight had no swing, checked with U3 who also had no swing, Tiger's didn't like it... :wave:

Verlander didn't like the next pitch being balled, started running his mouth and Laird did what any smart F2 would do, probably telling Knight that he would take care of it.

Knight is probably FED up with all the pissing and moaning. Good for him.

Some used to criticize me because they said I'm too negative to the MLB umps :blah ...but, ... I've always been very neutral, and now (since last season I think) I just post plays of all sorts, and let the forum take over, this way, I'm out of it! :beerbang

Good job by Knight in not putting up with the whining and good job by Laird in keeping his pitcher in the game. Verlander has been a grumpy one as of late.

Don't get me wrong, I will, just not as much anymore. We have an MLBump parent on the board, and that along with some who'll defend ANYTHING an MLB guy does because he's got the uniform on .....it's just not worth it. Last but certainly not least, ... I'm the furthest thing from a pro, so I have no room to criticize (for the most part) ;)

We'll one thing I like about these videos is if there was either a good call or a bad one we get to see it and discuss the call our theories about what happened and learn from it and apply to our games. Also seeing the best of the best having some of the same issues we have can be somewhat comforting.

Verlander has been a grumpy one as of late.

It seems players pick up on what their manager is doing. It was like that with the Braves players and Bobby Cox too.

Yeah Brian got mad, but he didn't let his temper get a hold of him. If he did, he would have tossed Verlander. He kept him in the game. Even though Verlander was being pretty demonstrative.

Just so long as we all remember that these same calls and scenarios are being played out all over the country for all of us professionals. I was reminded that we are all professional umpires, although the vast majority of us are umpiring amateur players. I guess the only non-professionals, are the LL umpires who receive no compensation whatsoever (even equipment stipend), that work LL games.

The only difference is the speed of play and the money received for professionally umpiring each game. Apparently many on this board have worked the same amount or more of games and have the same or more experience, yet make the same poor judgments from time to time at each of our levels. Poor calls knows no bounds from the highest compensation levels to the lowest compensation levels.

I come here to learn from the experts on this board, about why the calls may or may not have been missed, not how poor the call was or what the level was of the person making the poor call and whether or not they should have made such a poor call because of their level of experience. Everyone has made a terrible mistake at one time or another. Personally I do not put any person or level (MLB or whatever) of play or compensation level on a pedestal. We are all in this together, to try and start perfect and get better. That is the standard put on all of us, regardless of the pay scale.

Unfortunately or fortunately, MLB has a lot of videos for us to watch the different plays and see how the rules and situations develop for us to use as a guide, since there are not as many vidieos from other levels each day. I like the fact that T man brings us these plays and situations since he can accurately post the links each and every time.

And don't get me started on the poor plays made by players at all levels. Everything, playing and umpiring are just part of the game.

Anybody who thinks that the purpose for posting the videos is to disparage the MLB umpires is 100% wrong.

The videos are probably the best part of this board. They allow us to discuss things from game management to positioning to judgment.

It allows us a visual since these are likely the only games where every game is recorded.
