Tebowing at home plate in the middle of a game!?!

I had the plate yesterday and I was excited because I was sporting my new plate shoes and mask in a Varcity game. Anyway, this catcher decides he is setup outside of the plate all the time. I told him that if he was going to camp out there the whole game he better be able to get to the inside pitches. Well that was the 4th inning and in the 7th inning. Inside pitch deflects off the knob of the bat and right into my cup ( my mommy daddy button!) and down I went. Cup or not that SH*# hurts!!! After about 5 seconds I realize I'm Tebowing at home plate. My partner walks up and asks me if I'm waiting for someone to take my picture of me Tebowing. I laughed and told him "Yes, Yes I am!" it was a painful and funny at the same time. That catcher came back and very sincerely told me sorry for missing that one.

I had one game where I had not one but three separate pitches rebound and get me from underneath. I was ready to grab F2 by his chest protector straps and use him as my personal balloon.

I know right!!! I think all catchers should work 9-10 little league so they understand why we depend on them so much. LOL :-) I bet if they take one to the pills they will block those balls better for there umpire. At the beginning of both halfs of the first inning I ask the each catcher "How we doing today, you going to take care of me today!?" catcher 9 times out of 10 they say "Yes Sir"

NUTTY BUDDY!!!! I took 85+mph foul ball right to the cup and all I did was stand there ready to go. People didn't know how I was still standing. Didn't hurt a bit.

I can literally go over a year without a cup shot. But I can also say that they can come in bunches. I had one in the fall. Then I had one two weeks ago. Then I had one Saturday. Then I had one yesterday. I wear the SD Titan steel and two layers of compression, and the straight shots are not terribly shocking. Only one of the three that I've taken this season was a straight shot. One was a glancer, one was a thigh/cup combo shot that first got the catcher, so it was slowed considerably, and the straight one was a down-and-up foul.

You can go a while, or you can get magnetic, but either way, you must wear high-grade protection at all times! The failure to adequately prepare, or in some cases, not prepare at all, can lead to perhaps the most painful injury an umpire can endure. (I don't know about you, but I would way rather break a bone than bust a nut.

Just read the story of the Adrian Beltre's injury from his Mariner days. Beltre's one of the rare MLB infielders who doesn't even wear a cup--or at least, didn't used to.

Beltre after he went to Boston: "When I look down, after the game, it wasn't a pretty sight,'' Beltre recanted."My testicle got the size of a grapefruit! Thank God it didn't really damage anything. It took me two weeks. It was a tear. [There was] a lot of blood inside, but it didn't damage anything. Everything is okay now.''

Well, he may be okay, but I'm not. Just reading that gives me a nut ache.

I've been saying for years I know the law of averages will get me. The one time I should have gotten hit I didn't have a cup so I had my hand there. I took a 84 MPH fastball to the wrist. The catcher set up outside and never reached for it. I mentioned he needed to get that. He said he wasn't trying to get front of it. :WTF

Knock on wood (pardon the pun) I have never been hit there from behind the dish. Came close but no cigar. I did think at one point I broke or dislocated my jaw from taking one directly to the mask, it even left a small dent where it hit me. My ears even started to burn, that's when I got nervous. About 2-3 minutes later it subsided but my jaw still clicks every now and again.

I primarily use the Shock Doctor Carbon Fiber cup.

A few years ago I was in a eval game and took an uncaught pitch straight to the cup. No Ill effects other than a racing pulse expecting the pain.

Between innings my partner comes up to me and asks did that hit me in the CP. I told him no the cup. He said based on the sound he would have swore it was the CP.

Never under estimate the power of a quality cup.

The coach came down and told his catcher to go talk to the pitcher. He came up to me and said "I'm not going to ask if you had a cup on because I could hear the thump in the dugout. But I will ask if your ok!?"

The thing that hurt so bad was that it wasn't a strait on hit it was a little to the side.

A couple of funny after stories. The pitcher was the regular catcher, the catcher was the F5. I had never seen him catch. The catcher and his brother are both now principals in schools my sons attended.
