I know that some guys have ordered them in the past year. They called Douglas and paid around $125. Not sure if this is still available, but I know that it has happened several times in the last 12 months.

question still stands.........................

If you could still order a Douglas CP new, ...would you? I mean, they made the original WV, yes?:nod:

No.

For the same reason I wouldn't buy a Delorean.

I wore a Douglas for many years. I wish I had it back, but I won't buy another one. The only advantage of the Douglas was the extra length.

I will wear my Gold until Wilson makes a 15" model Gold. Then I will buy that one.

The Douglas is an excellent CP that would do anybody well. Would I recommend it over a West Vest, no. If somebody was upgrading it is a decent choice.

High grade of protection, extremely comfortable, very low-profile, very good fit. In my case, an absurdly low price went with it. I LOVE the thing, and work it in whenever I can. I also routinely let brothers try it, and they uniformly rave about it.

I have an old one that I bought in a yard sale several years ago for 35.00. I wear it every game I do whether LL or High school to summer college ball. It has certainly held up for me. I would say yes but I have never tried the platinum or the gold.

I just ordered one today. I have a platinum and I wanted a hard shell for a back up. I toyed with the idea a Champion and the Wilson A3217 Charcoal. I went the extra and decided on the Douglas after talking with some others on this board. The cost was $100 plus shipping.

I have a second generation Douglas that I wear with my plate coat. It's slimmer than my Platinum. I like as a back up, and a thin cp for the coat.

My original Douglas fetched four bills on eBay. It was good, but not $400 good.

I have a Platinum (3 years), a Gold (1+ years) and a Douglas (9 mos.). I wear the Gold exclusively if the pitchers are throwing serious gas. I wear the Douglas for most of the rest, and I wear the Platinum seldom (I keep it at the office in a back-up bag for emergencies).

In the last 25 games, I used the Gold 15 times and the Douglas 10 times. I haven't used the Platinum in months. It seems to offer better protection than the Douglas, but the Douglas is much sleeker and somewhat more comfortable. The Gold is the ultimate in protection.

All, ...

For those interested, I spoke to Jeff Cook at Douglas yesterday and they do indeed have parts to do a Douglas CP (about 30-40 of them).

When their parts are gone, they're done and they'll finally move their operations off-shore for the CPs. These are made in TX, and are $100, and, they come in 12,13,14,15" sizes.

I asked Jeff about this, and he said, SELL THEM IF YOU CAN, so ...here ya go boys!

Thunder, do you own/work for a sporting goods store that deals with officiating equipment?

Negative Dawg, just passing along info that wanted to get passed along by Douglas, and I thought there'd by some interested parties :D

On edit, for clarification, ...when I stated SELL EM IF YOU CAN, that was Jeff Cook telling me this on the phone yesterday when we were talking about my order ......

I see.......well, I was just wondering, cuz it seems like you have a lot of conversations with people that are up there! Seems like I also remember you telling us about a conversation you had with either Davis or West, too!

ordered my douglas today. Will use it as a backup to my gold. I have a feeling it will provide better protection than the 15" champion hard shell that I purchased a couple of months ago.

Plus it will give me a piece of gear that might be hard to find in the future. Especially since they only have enough stuff to make 30-40 of them.

Maybe one day company's like Douglas and Ridell will be able to get back in the hard shell business and give Joe West and Wilson a run for thier money. Having true competetion in the hard shell world would be great.

Well, to be honest, I did have an email convo with Joe West, but...that was pure luck, ....I just asked a question on the majorleagueumpires.com site, and HE answered! :D

Others I've spoke to are Brad Jurga from All-Star, Josh from 3n2, and Matt from Schutt, ...all happenstance:beerbang

If you look around, sometimes these people aren't too difficult to get ahold of, and they love to talk to the people who purchase and wear their equipment!

SLO: Congrats bro!!

Thunderheads - thanks for posting this info. I have been wanting to get a Gold but have been concerned with rib coverage - I am 6'4" and the 14" CP I have now is the right size but the Wilson at 12" length won't work (I don't think), Would be nice to try one on but that's not an option as none of my partners have one and I don't want to pay shipping twice to find out that it is too short.

Have had a few email exchanges with Jeff, a 14" Douglas will be ordered Monday when he is back in the office.

For anyone else wondering, here is his answer when I asked him about support when production goes offshore:

"Mike, We are always able to do repairs on our products. Reconditioning is availible when its needed."

Good to know. I hope I like my 15" douglas. I too am a large man. 5"10' 285. I currently wear a Gold and it seems to cover my ribs fine.

When I measure my Gold, it measures more to 13" I have the largest Gold offered.

I ordered the 15" Douglas to give a bit more length especially for the little league stuff. Can't wait to get it at some point next week. Also good to know that they can do repairs.

Anyone know if Wilson offers repairs on there WV stuff. Some of the rings that my shin guard straps hook on are starting to show a little rust. Would not mind getting those rings replaces at some point down the line.
