Mazz, have you taken a shot yet? A good one? How did it go?:hopmad:

Do you have any more pics of that vest? I am in the market for a hard shell and I like the idea of getting a 14" or 15". I am also looking at the Wilson A3209 hard shell because it comes in a longer length...12" to 13" just does not cover enough of my ribs for me to feel safe. I really want to look at the harness....How is Knob Noster? Have friends up in that area...Sedalia...went to school with a guy who's Dad runs Howard construction...

I just ordered mine from Douglas (14"), it will ship in a couple of days and should arrive early next week. I can take more pictures and post them when it gets here.

My total including sales tax and shipping from TX to NC was just under $120.

I just got an e-mail from Jeff at Douglas. I placed my order last Wednesday and he said that he hopes it will ship late this week. From the sounds of it, they have quite a few chest protectors to put together. They might run through their remaining inventory relatively quickly at this rate.

I hope mine is a as good as everyone has said. Not sure when I will work another game. High School season looks to be over for me and not sure how much help they need at the Little League fields...plus it gets kind of crazy out there. The league lets the coaches run the show and when an umpire (me) tries to enforce basic safety and equipment rules he gets a hard time.

I had hoped that my new 13" Douglas would be here in time for my game today but, it was not. Maybe tomorrow. Just sold my really nice ribbed, soft shell with internal plates and covered half the cost of the Douglas. I will always remember my first CP and it served me well but, I think I made a good move.

Don't judge the Douglas too soon. It takes a few times for the hardshell CP to mold to your body. But give it a few games, readjust it each time, get smacked with a fastball that makes the crowd "Oooohh!", and then get someone to kick your butt for wearing the other CP for so long! You will like the Douglas.

I live in Texas...mine will arrive in a hour or so, but I have no games in the forseeable future. Can't wait for Little League all-starst to begin.

Got it in...will take pics tomorrow. I got the 15" it is exactly the same length as my 15" Champion hard shell and appears to be 1 1/2" to 2" longer than my Gold.

I think I am going to like it. It is a little tight around the neck....my neck is 18 1/2. Not so much the straps, but the width between the two pieces that go around the neck.

It took me two games to break in my Gold and I think it will take at least as long to break this in. It seems to be stiffer than the gold.

Craftsmanship appears to be great. Hopefully I will get to try it out in a week or so.

It seems to be lower profile than the Gold, but It will be hard to tell until I get it molded to my body. I do like the way that the strap around the abdomen connects higher up than it does on my Champion.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone with a 14", but this one will do just fine.

It's a little silly, but seeing that UPS notice was actually quite exciting. A made-to-order Douglas. Very cool.

i ordered the 15" i think that is longest they have . based on what i have read from this blog plus some research on my own . i have a champion hardshell now , which works fine . but the douglas seems to be somewhat of a collectable item . since it officially does'nt exsist . i spoke to jeff cook , and he claims that the douglas is using materials that are consistent with the WV models . douglas was the original maker of the WV . and even now still uses the same padding and plastics as the WV . this is according to him . mine is supposed to arrive 6/1 , will see if so . i still have TOC and all stars to work .

When I originally contacted Jeff, he said the "stock" sizes were 13/14/15 but they could make other sizes for a slight upcharge.

Received my 13" in today. I tried it on and love the collarbone protection.

1st thing I notice about the Douglas.

Just from trying it on it fits comfortably.

Now I just need summer ball to start. Next games are 6-5-10.

ANTICIPATION.

Got mine today as well. I got the 14" and it fits great. I tried it on with a shirt and it is far less bulky than my Gold. (I have gotten several comments this year about my "football shoulder pads" that I have on) I'm going to wear it on Sunday in a game to try it out, but it looks like I'll sell my Gold and stick with the Douglas. If being beaten by SWMBO wasn't an issue, I would keep both. :yippie:

From the photos, my one concern about the Douglas is the shoulders..are they substantial? Is there that extra piece that covers where the top of thye shoulder meets the shoulder piece?

Posted

When it gets broken in or strapped on tighter, the caps meet the clavicle plates more snugly. But you're right: no gap coverage there like the Gold. The pads are very thick, however.

Posted

There is a small gap. Its about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch.

The pads are pretty thick. I have a few friends in the minors

and they havn't had any issues. They have had their CP

for several years.
