I had the first game of the season left my shirt and jacket at home to make matters worse lost my wallet, had no gas and thanks to all my brothers on U E and all the great advice was able to LOCATE the wallet and arrive at the game with 15 minutes to spare. I will never forget the proper attire again and I cancelled the game in the top of the third due to muddy field conditions. I wanted to hear other nightmare stories about leaving your equipment BEHIND when you went to umpire a game:givebeer:

Only story I have is I once left my cup at home for a fastpitch game. I only had to do one game behind the plate that night which left me hoping and praying I wouldn't get the league's fastest pitcher. Well when I got to the field I looked at the schedule, and lo-and-behold, I got her. Most of the game went by great and I had no problem at all, but then about the 4th inning and 45 min. into the game that fateful ball went into the dirt. As I felt the air of the ball wiz by me, I could slowly feel my boys climbing up towards my throat to get away from any danger from that point on. Needless to say, my cup is the first thing I put in my bag!

Couple a years ago I was having my pre-game with my partner in the parking lot while getting ready to do the plate. My wife took the car to the store as my partner and I went down to the field. During plate meeting I realize, "Oh $hit, my mask is not under my arm!!!" Embarassed, I look at my partner after meeting and ask if he's got his mask. He chuckles and says "This is the mask I've been using since I was a catcher" It doesn't fit, frame is too shallow and so I had to (gasp!) turn my hat around. The fit was so bad I had to hold it to my face. Broken knuckles versus broken jaw was my reasoning. Between innings I borrowed a cell phone from a spectator, who I knew, and called the Mrs. Luckily, she wasn't far but I still had to do another half inning with this mask and being that I made a phone call between innings, now the spectators knew the deal. I got a few comments and heckles from the stands for it but they were all in good fun. Finally the most glorious sight. The love of my life standing by the dugout, mask in hand. Btw... this was the first and last time I ever borrowed equipment. Rest of the game went fine aside from a coach, after a call did not go his way, joked, "Hey Chris, why don't you put the other mask back on?!?" Everyone got one more laugh at my expense.

Well thanks to the 36" Diamond gear bag I am yet to leave anything behind. I pack everything the night before for the next days assignment. And re-check for the essentials before I leave the house. I did once however forget my favorite indicator which was left in the bag in my car. It worked out though as I had a spare in my ball bag :lookup

I forgot my base shoes one day. The night before I'd taken both my plate and base shoes in to do a thourogh cleaning and forgot to put them back in the car. I looked really good wearing my Kennith Cole's out on the bases, when I told my wife I wore my work shoes in a game she nearly had a heart attack.

Place an extra old uniform in the car and leave it there all season long.

If you don't have an entire uniform, put in what you do have.

Amen! got to a game two weeks ago. I was supposed to do the plate for a JV SB game. When I got to the field and was getting into my gear, the commissioner came to me and told me he had to make a late change. The BU for the varsity baseball game had been in an accident earlier that afternoon and was in the hospital. The only person he could find that was available was only certified in SB and was first year. So, he understood I would look funny in my plate shoes and light blue shirt but he wanted me to be the BU for the baseball game.

I didn't look funny at all. Went back to car, pulled out the baseball navy and base shoes and exchanged the beanie for a regular hat. Made an extra $30 bucks too. I always keep extra shirts (one of each) and both pairs of shoes in my bag.

Just trying to remember one of the aboves I have not done... Got to love the memories.. The most horrible feeling is remembering everything but after leaving the parking lot on one of those especially long hikes to the assigned field to find your missing something. Then having to delay the game 10 minutes to get back to it. ugh.

First off, make sure you have EVERYTHING in your car the night before, then:

Here is your mantra, before you leave the car, every plate game you work:

"Cup"

"brush"

"Indicator"

"Mask"

"Wallet" (game wallet, for lineup cards, with your pen/pencil)

(make sure to touch all when reciting it)

Repeat this every time you have a plate game, and you will never have an issue!

Guess that means I'm going to have to take me home a TQC stick from work. I wonder if Quality has a few extra's to spare.

Left my mask in a scorebooth after a game one night without realizing it; next night, I went to call a game as PU and my partner asks, as we're walking to the field, "You gonna use a mask?"

I spent about 5 minutes looking for it in my car before it dawns on me where it is. Borrowed partners mask for the game - felt funny but got through it OK.

Had a partner working the plate once who forgot his jock, or shorts, or whatever he uses to keep his cup in place. I offered him mine (they were clean!) but he chose to just shove it in there and hope. I'm pretty sure I was the only one who caught how often he had to adjust it during the game - trying very hard to not laugh while he was doing so.

Worked a weekend tournament about a month ago. When I got home I took the shoes out to clean them. Put the plate shoes back in the car. forgot to put the base shoes back in.

The following Tuesday got called to be BU. Got to the park no Base shoes. :big_no

My feet got kinda heavy after running around the bases with my Reebok Plate shoes.

I was doing an early softball game in BFE Bashor, Kansas. Basehor is about an hour drive from my house and I had a 8:00 start. I had done 8 softball games the day before and it took me a little while to get woken up. Well, it was about the second inning when I realized I only had ONE shinguard on. :WTF

To this day I have not told a soul.

I hadn't forgotten anything in quite a while until I started reading this thread, got snakebit. Last week I used by blue ballbags. This week I used my black. I get to the plate meeting and realize I had nothing in either bag. No line-up book, counter, brush, nothing. I sent my partner back to get it while I did the plate meeting. I took the hit in the meeting for why my partner was MIA.
