Great site! My name is Anthony Ragona, and I'm from Long Island, NY. I've visited your site before, but just registered yesterday. Congrats on the anniversary!

I've been umpiring since 2002, and have worked everything from 12u to College Showcase tournaments. This year, I'll begin my first season of JUCO ball, mixed in with my high school schedule. Since baseball is played here from March until November, there are only two seasons for me: baseball & winter.

I've been a frequent reader (and infrequent poster) on a few boards over the years.

I've attended, among other clinics, Jim Evans first Libery Classic in NJ, almost two years ago.

As I'm turning 40 this year, I'd like to expend my mid-life crisis by attending JEAPU next year.

Looking forward to reading, and hopefully contributing some quality posts.

Happy New Year to all!

Welcome Anthony, I have to assume you had a good time at Flemington. The quote I've heard about your area is "there is two seasons, winter and road construction."

Yes, I wrote a few articles for Officiating.com some years back. Thanks for the kind words. It was a great experience, but work pulled me away from the keyboard, and then the diamond for a bit.

The great thing I find about "this thing of ours," as a friend (shamelessly making a Sopranos reference!) refers to amateur umpiring is that it's a diverse enough group to support and participate in different resources such as Officiating.com, umpire.org, and of course this site.

My name is Larry and I am from Athens, Ga. Hence the name dawg-man. I have umpired for the past nine years and loved baseball for as long as I can remember. I have umpired anyting from LL baseball up to summer college ball. I have also coached baseball for about 20 years from LL to being a lay coach for the high school. I am married and have been for 25 years. I have a son that is 24 and coaches baseball ( high school ) in the Chattanooga area and a daughter who is 21 and finishing up her college this year.

I started umpiring when a friend of mine coaxed me into and I wish I had gotten into years ago. I enjoy the fellowship and the comaraderie and well as just staying in the game that I love. I have umpired every state championship of LL except Big League. I have done state playoff games in high school and love doing those. I know that I can always learn something new so that is why I joined this group of umpires. Look forward to talking with you guys along the way.

As i've mentioned before on a post, this is a very civil site with intelligent umpires talking saliently (is that a word?) about points. With your experience, I am looking forward to you contributing...WELCOME

Hi, everyone.

Just stumbled onto this site and thought I would give it a shot. I guess more accurately I am not an "umpire," but a "former umpire" since my knees finally told me it was time to hang up the mask. That was about five years ago and I still can't get the enthusiam out of my system. You would think almost 30years would be enough, but I guess not.

Though I'm living in Florida now, and finished out my "career" on the field here, most of my umpiring was done in Maryland with Anne Arundel Umpire Association. I began volunteering for local community leagues as most of us did I guess, eventually gravitating to the local association and getting paid to do something I loved. What better situation?

So I am looking forward to exploring the site, learning new things, meeting new people, exchanging a few smiles and stories, and welcome any and all comments from other members.

Welcome Old Nr 24

I am in Salisbury,MD so I am very familar with where you did most of your umpiring. Were you ever in the MSUA through LL? I was VP at one time.

Thanks for the welcome, mstaylor. Never worked thru MSUA - almost exclusively with AAUA after going the AA County umpire route for a year. Some great baseball up in that neck of the woods, and I do miss it.

Nr,

I recommend hooking in with one of the local HS associations or such and acting as an evaluator and trainer. That way you are still in and around the game (just not on the field) and you can impart your knowledge and wisdom on other umpires that can use it.
