  1. what is the difference in telling the coach he can not do a change during the game or when you are at the plate meeting you notice something wrong with the line-up and you tell the coach of his error.

    P/DH Question

True---the p/dh is treated as two players one is the pitcher and the other is the dh
  3. what do schools know what or who is a good umpire
  4. place BR on second he had not reached first-- it is two bases.
  5. just call your game--don't look for trouble--WHY WHY WHY call a strike
  6. when ever possible--- arrive and leave the game in the same type of pants and shirt you would wear to play golf in a country club--I say when ever possible that is only one part--NEVER NEVER NEVER showup in uniform.
  7. your job is to make sure to play the game by the RULES--tell the home team the way it is going to be (you have the rule book to back you) then grab your partner and tell him when he works with you; he works the right way or he can work alone. Say during the game the visiting team hits the ball over the short fence and things come up and a protest is made--what is your fall back --that you wanted to be a nice guy--not with the RATS around--cover your rear end.
  8. You have the right to remain silent--best advice you will get umpire should not talk with their hands or their mouths.
  9. what part of the state???
  10. after time is called you can not do a hidden ball trick--in order to put the ball in play the pitcher MUST have the ball when he steps on the rubber--the ball could not be put in play without that--so if the pitcher does not have the ball it can not be put in play.
  11. Well, in fairness to the umpire, I was bringing up a call after an inning on a play that happened during that inning. What was done was done. I really shouldn't have said anything at that point. Besides, to him, I was probably just a rat, not someone that actually does know the rules. The part of the story I didn't tell was that when our head coach was heading over to the 3rd base coaches box for the next inning, the PU told him that we weren't playing under little league rules, we were playing under MLB rules. The head coach told me that the next day. If I had known that the PU said that at the time, I would most certainly have gotten tossed. At the point of your argument the ump thought the right thing -you where a rat--as time goes if you continue to do both (ump and coach) you will be bad at both--choose the one you love the most and do the best you can.
  12. What no jokes from the drunks in the Bar :)
  13. Please --please not for myself but please for all your partners out there --please buy some new pants--your know who you are :)
  14. Martin didn't turn his head. Ump walked around from behind the plate and faced off Martin. Martin didn't even get up from the crouch. No visible "show-up" which is what most of y'all say is the no-no. The "no nothing" commentator was Ken Singleton. He's was around the plate for numerouse conversations for 15 big league seasons, 2,082 games, and about 8680 plate appearances. He has a clue. Guess what - sometimes it's the umpire that is more at fault. Notice that Giurardi didn't get tossed for arguing the EJ for a long long time? Yes, F2 did turn his head. Watch again at 1:56. Yes, the announcer has no clue b/c he is under the impression that F2 can argue all game as long as he doesn't turn around. Umpires are suppose to just stay back there and listen to it as long as F2 doesn't turn around. F2 is at fault and cowardice to hide behind the mask and use this "As long as I don't turn around" weak excuse to argue calls. Just b/c Girardi didn't get tossed is NO indication of anything. He didn't say the magic word to get EJ. He wanted an explanation. How is THAT an indication for anything? I'm really really tired of this "umpire can do no wrong" and "it's always the players fault" bullSH*#. Have you checked--the site is called umpire empire :)

    Scruples

I would work the best ball I can--quality instead of quantity--in the end you will make more $$$$$--you will make more contacts working college that will lead to better games--THE CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP--good luck
  16. A) legal B) balk
  17. So you have a wild pitch that is fielded by the pitcher. And you want a balk? For what? my question on this ---is it a pitch???it did not cross the plate or the foul line
  18. I was working a game with a partner and after the game we got to talking about strange plays that happen in games--here is the situation he discribed-- feild has a raised home plate(about 1/4 inch) and some of the dirt in front of the plate was gone-- runner on 3rd, pitch comes in and hits the front end of the plate and the ball goes straight back to the pitcher, pitcher then turns and catches the runner off 3rd--what is the rule??? does the play stand??? He ruled to let the play stand with out much lip from the coaches. As we where talking he said he made the wrong call and the night of his game he went throught the rule book and came up with a balk should of been called. After thinking about it he might be right--like to know what you all think.
  19. I think you have INT on this play--the batter lets the bat go after the catcher has the ball
  20. Guys think of where he (u4) was at the time of pitch--he was a good 8 to 10 feet behind 3rd base--if he went into foul area he would have to look through the 3rd baseman--close call but he blew it
  21. what obstruction the runner had a path to the plate---ump made himself part of the play --bad job
  22. The RAT tossed himself--good job
  23. once the out call is made--better not to change it--where do you put the runners to make it fair??????learn from this mistake.
  24. It's all relative. Yeah, most of the time the players selected are all relatives of coaches and board members. Just kidding. maybe a joke but often very true
  25. the ump responsible for the tag up has to watch when the ball is first touched--not the catch always but always first touch.
