Wendelstedt Umpire School is Shutting Down After 2026 Class
mw94 replied to johnnyg08's topic in Professional
Well that sucks! Now the only way to try & become a Pro Ump is to goto a MLB clinic and get noticed. I guess the good part is if you get noticed at the MLB clinic and picked to go to the school in Vero Beach FL. Its tuition free https://youtu.be/CXPRkTGtiGA?si=hUx70mFuTdpgO4eC -
which I think is ridiculous. It also has caused trickle down effect to lower levels expecting time after after ball in play

I think the Double 1st base could be a problem in two ways. Take 1: Very poor underfunded teams that play at public parks or bad home fields , getting the Double Bags purchased & installed . Especially in the public park domain. Take 2 : Here in AZ when teams are privileged enough to rent a MILB field or Spring Training field , numerous times I have played HS FED games with the bigger pro sized bases. no one said a word but technically not legal

Feet position means ABSOLUTELY nothing in baseball for Foul/ Fair calls. Where was the ball located over the field when it was touched??? By your description we don't have an answer
-
Had the same BullSH*# from a coach a few years back here in AZ. Spring Break H.S tourney with teams from multiple western states. Team from CO. is warming up & we see the catcher wearing a 2 piece traditional mask & backward skull cap. Totally illegal in FED. Gives us some BS about being ok in CO. Which I followed up on & it was a lie

Well Long Time Ago in an Umpire Galaxy Far Far Away, In the late 1980's the taught Pro Mechanic at Brinkman & Wendelstedt Umpire schools was C with 1st & 3rd But it was changed to B a few years later.

Maybe a stupid question ? But wouldn't restricting a player basically be the same as an ejection?? Can't leave the dugout there for he cant play in the game???
-
Legal still ok to fake to 3rd in FED rules

Chest Protector Porn (PHOTOS & Brief Description Only)
mw94 replied to Cavalier1948's topic in Umpire Equipment
Some historical chest protector stuff. Just was gifted some retired gear from an umpire that lived in Southwest Riverside County. ( Where MR Carlucci lived ) I guess my questions are? Is it worth anything? Like the crazy prices people pay for a Riddell Power? Is it safe to use? -
The umpires should be getting $100 a game
-
The umpire shortage is a true factor , I just looked a little closer at this incident and the attacked umpire was 77 years old working High School level 2 man ,.In the insane Atlanta heat and humidity. I turned 55 and will not work in the extreme AZ(June 1 - Sept 1 ) heat anymore. A very well known Travel Ball Tournaments(USA Baseball Western Championships) is taking place right now. I just won't do 3 games in 98-110 heat.

and cut into their profits? no way .

Good move by the umpires for leaving & not continuing the game for" the kids". This is not Pro or Power 5 D1 NCAA conference baseball. You get hit you leave !

Legality of Removing a Helmet
mw94 replied to Jerry Springfield's topic in Close Call Sports/ Umpire Ejection Fantasy League
I cant believe the Mets did not challenge that ? -
The problem Max stems from the Pro Level, because in MLB they do call time after every play. Because the current baseball rulers have determined that any baseball touching a bat or the ground is now unusable. Last time I checked the rule book you can't change baseballs with the ball alive?
-
The other mind boggling 0-2 count move is when the catcher sets up 6-10 inches outside and they think I am going to call it a strike because it hit the mitt. This move also causes umpire pain when the pitcher throws the ball inside.
-
This is the philosophy in Pro Baseball Milb or MLB level. The belief is professional baseball managers should know the rules.

When I started 35 years ago, It was a common to see this style chest protector for low level baseball. I had this but then upgraded to a Joe Brinkman +POS after that I got Reach Randy Marsh anyone remember that one?
-
Or possibly, Brian O Nora needs reading glasses. He does not want to use them during a game because it might look bad. Joe Brinkman did this toward the end of his career the 2nd base umpire kept the lineup card

There having a big sale on these slacks. This used to be the gold standard for Umpire slacks. Do you guys think they are too outdated to wear ?(like wearing Heather grey) https://honigs.com/products/mlb-pleated-poly-wool-plate-pants
