Catching a ground ball, or a fly ball is not a play for purposes of this rule. Looking a runner back to a base before throwing is not a play. Attempting to tag a passing runner is a play, or throwing to a base to retire a runner is a play.

Over 100 in the assoc so numbers not required. However, my son picked 9 when he was in college because that assoc required numbers and it was the only single digit available, thus cost less to put on shirts.

Nice, also about 4 years ago I got the HC, F1, F5 and somebody from off the bench who ran up behind me hollering, in that order, and then forfeited the game. It took about 60 seconds all total. And they were winning by like 13-0 at the time, just nuts. When I called my assignor he said he had been warned about that hot head coach and that hot head team and something needed to be done about them. When he looked at the schedule and saw I had their next game behind the plate he said he thought about warning me and then decided it was not necessary, I would take care of business as needed. I found out later HC and F1 were related.

Save it to your computer and zoom in all you like.

Well, in OBR by rule you have to ask your partner if they ask. In FeD you can refuse. If they are asking too much I will ask the catcher to stop that, or I might play a little game with them till they get the point and hush.

I offer my stance only for comparison, and yes, I am in the slot, and my fingers are behind the shin guards, not on my knees.
-
Does not matter if covered in pregame. If an OBR rule game if defense asks for appeal then you must go to partner to see. If he has nothing then so be it. Not an option to say he can't tell so you will not ask. Personally, I am automatic and will say so for pregame, and regardless of rule set, if they ask I go to partner.

I'm not going to read any further, I see where this is going. Enforce the rules, and don't add any because you don't like. It is nothing under OBR and one base (not 3rd in this case) under FED. No warnings, just explain it to the OC when he complains about an out, in OBR game.

Timing play in my view. However, can't really see the batter not taking off for 1B if ball goes to backstop. If it is caught on the first hop, or clearly blocked, I can see batter not bothering to run.

Why theories? Rules say a fielder must have complete control in hand or glove. A glove on the ground is not under complete control. What if a player became good at tossing his glove at a ball and trapping in the pocket. That's a theory, but is also prohibited by rule and penalized.

Google on your state and the high school athletic association. What you are looking for is the booking agent in your area. Call and ask how to get started. Do whatever you are told to do. Register early, that gets you on the booking agent's list and my state fee includes rule book and case book, don't know about your state. You need to be registered by early January. If your state does not have a good website (can't imagine) that will ID the booking agent then call the AD at a local high school and ask him for the name and number of the high school booking agent. Go to NFHS website and order "Rules By Topic" for baseball, but wait until the 2010 version is out. In summary, make contact with booking agent. Do what you are told to do.

Wear what is comfortable for you, but match on bases if 3 or 4 man crew, even if you wear SS T underneath and partners wearing LS shirts. At least you will look the same on outside. I rarely wear a jacket behind the plate, I think once this year, and for that DH I had on everything I own for the first game on bases including, ear cover and gloves. There was a steady 15-20 mph wind for most of the first game. When I went behind the plate for the second the wind had died down some and I ditched the ear cover and gloves, but still had everything else on.

Apparently, don't know another reason. However, if you gonna be bush why not do it twice during at bat? LL has an extra wide catcher's box so seems to be no reason to actually throw pitches.

Jump turns are legal. Never seen one where ground was not gained. If ground was not gained it was not a jump turn (ie spin move).

Sure. 13-15 leagues and JV players get a little leeway, Varsity not.

Yes, see my post just made, rule 1, rule 2 should not be needed if rule 1 exercised first.

If a league is going to use 17 year olds to umpire they should provide some fundamental rules for the young umpires to follow. It would not hurt to let the coaches know also: 1) "Listen Kid" = ejection 2) "You don't tell me what to do" = ejection, see rule 1 if happens in same sentence.

Don't smile at him when approaching the field. Never allow a pregame conference with league rep. If rep wants to say something say so to umps while getting dressed, away from the field. Go back to original post and stop when the word rigged is used. Toss here, emphatically. Everybody present will know why.

I don't believe you. You did not EJ the AC for making a comment that should clearly lead to EJ, so how you going to convince us you will EJ the HC for making a comment about missing calls? As for the next game, and all games, give AC no leash at all, and HC as much as he needs without being personal, profane, or prolonged.

In a tournament game this Spring I allowed a coach's wife to bring a Blackberry onto the field to show me an email that was sent to all the coaches that clarified a league rule. It was in dispute and I don't get emails from the league on league rules. That's about it for bringing rules onto the field, league rules only and especially those that have been changed or clarified mid-season.

Never heard this from a coach re mechanics....
Don replied to JnLeClair10's topic in Umpire Mechanics
The "owner" came out? I never heard of owners coming out. Was he some kind of assistant. Never allow assistants to argue, toss em quick. FED instituted new rule this year, assistants can't argue, if they do, put them and the HC in the dugout. I work for 13-14 Junior league between HS games and they instituted a new rule this year. Assistant tossed is suspended by the league for the SEASON. Therefore, assistants don't argue and Heads come out to discuss real calm-like. -
Words like "time", "balk", "hey pitcher", etc can incite a balk and are legitimate words not to allow. Words like GOGOGO are coaching words and he is allowed to coach. If he said it, runner took steps toward home and pitcher balked then he balked. By the way the penalty for BC inciting a balk by word is ejection so be sure to eject if you are not going to allow the balk.

Catcher asked me once, how do you deal with all these fans fusing? I said WHAT FANS? I ignore fans and assistant coaches. The only recent fan story is about a dad who was cussing loudly about his son getting hit intentionally ( on an 0-2 pitch by the way ). While his son was being attended to I asked the tournament director to get rid of him. I noted that he remained, but he did not say another word so I assume he was talked to.

I stop reading here, because this is mine too, WASTING TIME by not hustling on and off, not being ready, not, not, not, tick, tick, tock...
