ZERO 1-man games in the area I work in. It's 2 or 3-man, even in the summer leagues.

I disagree with you on the last part. I don't think it's the umpire's place to declare a player "legal" to the opposing coach. However, if he comes to me with an issue, he should be (politely) told he needs to take the issue up with the TD. The only time I have ever declared a player illegal was when coaches were trying to let kids play up several levels. I had one game last year where I had the coaches pull the player off the field. I explained it to the coaches as a liability issue. IF THE PLAYER IS LISTED ON THE ROSTER AND THE ROSTER WAS SUBMITTED BY THE HEAD COACH, THE PLAYER IS LEGAL AS FAR AS WE (UMPIRES) ARE CONCERNED.

Play the game. Let the tournament director sort out the details. If the lineup card given to the umpire has the players listed, they are legal to play unless they were ejected prior. Stopping a game to deal with this was the wrong thing to do. Something like, Coach B claims players are illegal. Umpires verifies players are on the original, submitted roster. "Players are legal, Coach, let's go."

Thunder, Basically the same as Hojo. NB 450's, size 11.5, NB 460's, size 11, Reeboks, size 11.

I own both as well as the Reebok Field Magistrates. The 460's are more true to size. I just don't understand why the dang laces are SO long!

Something along the lines of, "Time." Clean the plate, say to catcher "knock that crap off now."

You shouldn't have catchers at the JC level pulling pitches. JC coaches expect their catchers to stick pitches. I always tell both catchers, in HS and college, to stick their pitches. If they insist on pulling pitches, I just tell them "I can't get that pitch, stick it where it's at."

Moriarty_45, Yes, going to Murfreesboro. We still have about a month left, have to do Districts, Regions and Sectionals and I'm not sure of field or game assignments as of yet. When I went in 2009, I did work 2 or 3 games at Lavergne HS, all finals were at MTSU. It was awesome. The most enjoyment I get really, is when the Districts start, we work 3-man all the way through the State, and work 6-man in the Finals.

I have owned all of the more popular umpiring shoes, including the NB 350 base shoes, the old NB 450 plate shoes (still have them, wear them occasionally), the Reebok Field Magistrate plate and base shoes, the NB 460 plate shoes and the NB 995 base shoes. I start with Under Armor socks, cool comfortable, great socks. IMHO the Reeboks are by far the best shoes, plate and base. The NB 995 were absolute garbage.

Why in the world are you worrying about batter's box lines in the 7th inning?

One other note, if the ball did hit the batter and you're going to keep him in the box, you still have to kill it, advise what you have, then put the ball back in play. Good job on the ejection, when they need to go, send 'em!

Same stance 3 years ago. Pants were a little short then, but.... Everyone's positioning is a work in progress, I think!

Ok, I probably don't pay enough attention to where my thumbs are in my stance, it's something I'll work on. My foot positioning, I am straddling the inside portion of the right handed batter's box line. Remember, the catchers box line is wider than the batter's box lines. The catcher is toward the outside corner and moving further that way (I know, not pictured but this is how this catcher worked). I am inside and can see the ENTIRE outside corner. It works for me and no my stance DEFINITELY is not perfect.

This looks like he's too far back to me. And I don't understand how he can see the low pitches with the catcher blocking his vision. I dont think hes too far back it looks like he could just about touch the catcher if hed stick his hand out. And its tough to tell from the picture but if hes in the slot the catcher wont be blocking his view of the low pitch. Yes, he will. No, he can definitely see the outside corner. Trust me.

1. Pay more attention. 2. When the coach "storms" out of the dugout, it is not your fight, it's your partners'. 3. During the loud conversation with your partner, it is not your job to try and restore order. Listen to what is being said and wait. 4. You inserted yourself into this situation, you deserved for the coach to yell at you. 5. NEVER put your hands on a coach. 6. Meeting the coach after the game? NEVER DO THIS! 7. I would not work with you again.
