  1. From today: I don't understand why you would warn F1 in this situation. Why not toss him right then if you think he did it, or check the new ball you give him after the next pitch? What would you do?
  2. No, he's on second.
  3. OBR 5.06 (B) (4) "(4) Each runner including the batter-runner may, without liability to be put out, advance: . . . (I) One base, if the batter becomes a runner on Ball Four or Strike Three, when the pitch passes the catcher and lodges in the umpire’s mask or paraphernalia. If the batter becomes a runner on a wild pitch which entitles the runners to advance one base, the batter-runner shall be entitled to first base only."
  4. @Thunderheads corrected me on that: I'm not brave enough to not use an indicator yet, however I do make sure to keep my head up when clicking it... and the All-star with notched dials helps with that
  5. That's what I do
  6. @Thunderheads Thank you, that makes sense. Normally its putting it back on reversed, like with right hand on the pads and left on the harness. (IDK how to describe that lol) so I guess I assumed they took it off that way too.
  7. For partners I've worked with that do it, it's normally take off with right and move to left if they have an out call. However, I've had a few call bangers with their right hand, with their mask still in it. It looks... interesting to say the least.
  8. I've seen a lot of umpires take their mask off with their right hand; both partners I've worked with and even high level umpires online. I thought you weren't supposed to use your right and I personally only use my left hand and would never go right. But it okay to use your right hand? If you're an evaluator/assigner, would you ding someone for using their right?
  9. Sorry. Doing school at the same time doesn't work. Thanks
  10. Unless it's FED. Then you need to restrict them first.
  11. The agreement from 3 days ago just says, "All suspensions of 80-or-fewer games will be served in 2020 if games are played. Should the season be canceled, those suspensions would not carry over to 2021." https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-players-association-season-deal-coronavirus-plan There doesn't appear to be anything about how the full-season suspensions would work.
  12. Uhh that's not a Hollow Steel FM25. Unless I'm way off, that's a titanium at a great price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/All-Star-Hollow-Steel-FM25-LMX-Traditional-Baseball-Catchers-Mask-Silver/164063966518?hash=item2632f97536:g:PG0AAOSwTRZeOW~p
  13. Ohh never mind. I wasn't thinking when I wrote that. Sorry.
  14. What about pitch that bounces and the batter swings his leg up and kicks it while it's in the strike zone?
  15. If the fielder touches the ball while the ball is over foul territory then it's foul. If he touches it while over fair territory, then its fair. OBR's Definition of Terms: "FAIR BALL is a batted ball that... while on or over fair territory touches the person of an umpire or player. FOUL BALL is a batted ball that... while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or player, or any object foreign to the natural ground." Side note: funny that in both definitions, the book lists the umpire before the player. MLB obviously recognizes who's more important.
  16. Here's the situation at the big league level https://www.closecallsports.com/2018/08/ask-uefl-foul-bunt-or-ball-fouled-away.html
  17. That's awesome!
  18. $26?!? And with the tag still on it!
  19. Thanks guys!
  20. Just for my own future reference, if a player points at the spot where he thought the pitch was, or steps there etc., he should be run?
  21. The same one brand new on Samurai Gears is $420. https://www.samuraigears.com/product-page/mizuno-pro-titanium-mask

    Money

I umpire and I also work as a basketball coach and referee at a rec center. I could legitimately have more/better hours and make more money at other jobs. But those other jobs aren't umpiring the great game of baseball. Those other jobs aren't getting to coach kids and make an impact in their lives. Yeah I make pretty good money for a teenager, and its being saved for college, but its not as much as I could make... And I don't care. Umpiring and coaching are two of my favorite things I've done in my life. I don't, and never will regret it.
  23. Okay, I'll try that on my leather pads (I replaced the memory foams with those, I found them to be too soft.)
  24. I used black tape over the W on the front of my Wilson memory foam pads. It was hardly noticeable, or at least a lot less noticeable than the ugly gold W. It might look alright on your top pad.
  25. Mike, are you by any chance going to D4's rules clinic at Vistas on the 29th? I'll be there.
