The only way to get a double play is if the umpire judged the intent of the interference was to prevent a double play. With R2 and no outs for a double play the fielder would need to field the ball, tag the runner and then throw to first in time to get the runner - not likely since it sounds like the runner passed the fielder during the play. Stutter stepping while going by the fielder may or may not be interference but if the ump judged that it was then the ball is dead, the runner is out and the batter is awarded first. To me, since F6 fielded the ball and threw out the batter/runner it doesn't sound like there was runner interference but if the ump judged there was then there was!

Looked like RLI to me but as a Sox fan I could be biased! By the way, RLI is not reviewable! I guess he could have asked to talk to one of the other umps? Speaking of plays at first, how many times is Machado going to be allowed to step on/kick the first baseman's foot? He had the whole base open but chose to step on Pierce's heel - bush league play.

You run a Tournament, you have a Tournament Director at the Park to rule on Protests. If you use multiple parks you have a TD at each one. How hard can that be? If the TD has to call someone what's the big deal, doesn't everyone have a cell phone? Protest Fees are a ripoff (IMO).

If you look at the 54-55 second mark you can obviously see it was a late swing but it appears it did not impede/affect the catcher. If, as stated, the "pitch" ends when the ball is in the catcher's glove, should the "pitch" have been called a ball since the "swing" wouldn't count !!! Obviously the "late swing" was an attempt by the batter to try to protect the runner.

As stated, "h" fits ("a" probably does too) and once again the 20 seconds doesn't start until the pitcher has the ball and, as stated previously, the catcher threw the ball to first so the "clock" does not start until F3 throws the ball to F1.

Delay of game/directed strike would not apply to the original post since the catcher did not throw the ball back to the pitcher he threw it to first.

My comment was obviously not for T-Ball or even non-competitive minors. Those are instructional divisions and normally, at least around here, have the managers/coaches acting as umpires. They should handle a thrown bat as a teaching opportunity. Once you get to competitive minors and above (divisions that have assigned umpires) that's when my opinion on warnings/ejections apply (warn the player and the manager and at that point it's up to the manager to remove the player of risk ejection). Again, just My opinion.

The third out at second was a force out, doesn't matter if R3 crossed the plate before F6 touched second, the run doesn't count. Maybe the ump and other coach knew the rule after all! No "advantageous" fourth out was necessary.

Throwing the bat should not, in my opinion, he an out by making a local rule for it. If a batter throws the bat then when the play is over warn the batter and also warn the manager that if the player throws the bat again then he/she will be ejected. At that point it's the manager's call if he/she wants to remove the player and not risk the ejection. Again, just My opinion.

So, your catcher didn't know the count or the number of outs or where the runners were! Even if it was a strike three not caught, with one out and a runner on first (you said the bases were loaded) the batter running to first doesn't matter, he's out. Catcher needs to be aware of the situation.

Had one last weekend in a 10U Travel Tournament.

Who gets "protected" is up to the umpire. In general, it's the player attempting to make the play and that can change during the play. If two players are attempting to make the play it's the one the umpire believes has the best chance of making the play. Example: pop-up towards F5. F5 is protected. Wind blows ball towards F6, F6 would then be protected.

It's not a judgement call it's a mis-interpretation of a rule. Should have Protested. Not sure why managers are afraid to Protest. The wrong call just cost his team a run.

Agree with the others, the runner is out. Assuming less than two outs, the batter is awarded first base.

The out at first removed the force at home. The runner must be tagged.

Always played outside as a kid. We had the proverbial sandlot diagonally across the street from my house, always full of kids playing something. When I mis-behaved my punishment was my mother sat me on a chair in front of our living room window and I would have to watch all the other kids playing outside. Not being allowed to play outside with my friends was worse than any spanking (yes, there were spankings back then!).

All those "Damn Yankees" are the same to me (a Red Sox Fan). Actually that's not true, I thought Jeter was a very good ball player and was classy, not so for A-Roid. "Hit" the glove just reminded me of that play!

"the runner hit her glove"? Was this a Dereck Jeter "swat" of the fielders glove or did the runner just "hit the glove" with the body as part of the tag? In the first case the runner is out and the call is dead, in the second case play on.

Being picky but why did the Ump yell "Infield Fly It Fair"? It was a pop-up at the mound, not anywhere near the foul line, why the "if fair"?

It was not a bunt attempt. The batter was pulling the bat back and trying to get out of the way of the pitch. Foul Ball was the correct call in my opinion.
