Bona Fide, FPSR - wouldn't matter on this one
Velho replied to Velho's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
LL is highly restricted on OBS (and was before this year's OBR "POE"). By rule, fielder can't hinder, force a slide, or alter runner path because of the fielder's position. Period. It's not called this way in March. Nor in August apparently. -
Bona Fide, FPSR - wouldn't matter on this one

I totally agree. They did finally call one yesterday(?) and then didn't call others in the same game. I've been cataloging since the Regionals. Will compile into a video once I get home from traveling next week. The announcers are as clueless as, well, baseball announcers. Production doesn't help since they barely replay - more interested in other stuff. -
Oh, I'm qualified. That's how I do it today. continued joking... bet the batters complain about balls & strikes? 😂

We don't have more angles (which, btw Tim Kurkijan thought the slide was, to paraphrase, "great since it's not something you get away with in MLB" (I'll grab the full video once I've completed handing my daughter off to college in the great state of Ohio 🥲) but you could grab it on violation of #3 or #4. A “bona fide slide” for purposes of Rule 6.01 occurs when the runner: (1) begins his slide (i.e., makes contact with the ground) before reaching the base; (2) is able and attempts to reach the base with his hand or foot (3) is able and attempts to remain on the base (except home plate) after completion of the slide; and (4) slides within reach of the base without changing his pathway for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder. -
No, not arguing unforced runners advanced. We're talking about something much more minor and borderline irrelevant (though, imo, not full blown mierenneuken, Cliff Clavin-ing, whatever you want to call it). We get to the same place. The runners are where they are supposed to be. You simply skipped the pageantry. Let me ask about a scenario where you don't call time: R3, CI, F6 looks back R3, BR safe as F3 drops the ball. F2 turns to discuss the implications of CI while a) in continuous action or b) after plays stops, F3 throws home to get R3 who is taking advantage of the confusion, defense recovers and tags R3 out. What do you do now in each of a) and b)? Would it have been better to call time as the play completed at 1B? Which I'd argue is enforcing CI even though you aren't reposting runner. Further, I know we "don't care about Section 9" - which I actively don't in LL - but I'm guessing college and pros do (and HS probably shouldn't but they do). The play standing on an error vs CI changes OBP, ERA, and fielding errors statistics.

They've severely ramped it up in the LLWS. L'oreal sponsoring?
-
Anyway that shouldn't have been called under bona fide requirements? (27 second mark)
-
🤔 As @Jimurray posted (and I've screenshotted OBR for reference), no forced aspect. The requirement is unrequited advance to ignore. (unless I'm missing something)

I've had it happen once and I've thought about it a lot since. LL Majors (so not protecting a steal), as batter shows bunt pitcher seemed to redirect and put the pitch fully in the box. Do I think it was intentional? Yes. Do I have enough to toss the pitcher, or even mention it to the coach as a possible "hey if he did that he shouldn't"? No. Short of the pitcher verbally saying something during or after the pitch, or having headhunted earlier in the game, I don't know what justification I have for a warning, much less an EJ. It would be OOO'ing.

Replay started in 2008. First HR was 2017. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/mikie-mahtook-accidentally-gifted-jose-ramirez-with-a-home-run-c252186714 None of the 5 articles I see from that time mention it was improperly called a HR (one says it was a HR anyway since it hit the yellow padding) nor why it didn't go to replay. Note the second fielder contact home run (by the same batter) in that same game. vjzlovtvr1n1olvkgr9h.mp4

I don't think it's hard for someone to imagine but here is an example just in case
-
If you can hit a HR without holding the bat you can foul off a pitch without holding the bat 😁
-
I will add one thing: they best be retouching after a foul ball (or "in the vicinity" if you're so inclined). Refusing to do that is further "play stupid games" activity.
-
Are you talking about calling R1 out as soon as they go out there? One can argue when the tag attempt starts* but, In my mind, as soon as someone with the ball advances toward R1, R1s base path is set and they will very likely move 3' off it (move lateral for example) and you call them out. * Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Tap about garbage publishing decisions. Lying in your headline to correct it in the subhead is a chickens**t move.

At the risk of beating it to death - but just matching the continual instruction LL umps get - that is "Out". And, "Once you're out, stay out." ... and he should have gotten his around quickly and then broken protocol to take the call if no one else was on top of it.

I was watching the second one (SD vs MIA on 8/11). Anyone know when the first one was?
