Hey all, I use the V-Sport version of this cp that I bought a couple of years ago because the length was better for me than the Wilson's. (I am 6'4") I have taken foul balls estimated in the mid 80's just under my right collar bone with no damage. If this is built the same way, I would use it with confidence. Bigdog:cool:

Do you carry your rulebook to the field?
Bigdog replied to Dragon29's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
Hey all, Our local LL has rule books in the scorers booths for reference. I DO NOT & NEVER WILL CARRY A RULE BOOK ONTO THE FIELD. If a manager thinks I am wrong (on an interpretation, not a judgment), we will have a quick discussion about it. If the manager wants to continue, I tell him that he has ONE minute to show me where I am wrong. At the end of that time, there will be a reversal, a protest, an ejection, or a quiet coach in the dugout. Any way you look at it, the game will quickly continue. Bigdog:cool: -
Traditional Face Mask vs. Hockey Style Mask
Bigdog replied to Strike3urout's topic in Umpire Equipment
Hey all, I use only a traditional mask and have never tried a HSM in a game, probably never will. Not because i think they are ugly, or I am just "old skool":Cool2:, I just figure if I can't get one to be comfortable on my head in a store, I will NOT EVEN THINK about trying it on a field! Hey all, After doing a Google search and going through TOO MANY sites too find out, MLB Network is supposed to be on Channel 213 for DirecTV. Bigdog:cool:
-
Hey all, I have DirecTV and as soon as I read your post, I did a search for the channel. I could not find out from the DirecTV web site what channel it will be on because they don't like giving info like in advance that for some reason. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, COOL!! What service provider do you use and channel is it on? Inquiring minds want to know! Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, I never even thought about being an umpire until I was asked to umpire one of my son's LL games because there was no umpire. I wish it was sooner, but alas, it was not. All I can do is to ask for forgiveness from "The Elders" (Not to be meant as ) Bigdog:cool: BTW, why am I having thoughts of the More Taste League running through my head???:givebeer:

Hey all, Mine ended back in July as well, right after a Triple Crown tournament. Ended up with knee surgery two weeks ago and looking forward to getting back behind the dish come February-March time frame with HS season. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, OK, I know that I am on the "other" coast, but I got you all (y'all for those of you in the South! ) beat! I am only 40 years old and started "way back" in 2004! GOTCHA!! Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, I like the fact that a pitcher can now go to catcher, but I wish that LL International would have tried this version of the rule last year. It is just another example of over-zealous rule implementations that end up being pulled back or completely repealed... and I know that it is not only at the LL level. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, Not a personal compliment, but one for the crew. Losing coach in a LL Sectional game asked the crew if we don't mind traveling to do some of their regular season games next year. They were from @ 90 miles away. I worked every game as we were the tournament host, and I must say, our crew was really on that whole week. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, This is the way I have always run this mechanic with everyone I have worked with from LL to adult league. It always made more sense for the umpire that is significantly closer to the play, with probably a better angle too, makes this call. More of a common sense vs. book smart mechanic. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, The link you provided is NOT to a baseball rule, but a JR, SR, and BIG League Softball rule. LL baseball did away with the intentional walk rule your are thinking of before the 2008 season. Now pitchers have to also learn how to pitch to the kid they don't want to face, or burn the four pitches on the pitch count. BTW, an intentional walk in LL is not a sure thing. I have seen a couple of pitches end up in the outfield or over the fence because the "ball" wasn't far enough away from the batter. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, John, glad to see you! I know you will enjoy this site. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, Regardless of what any umpire thinks, I would tend to believe that most, if not ALL players and coaches know how far they should be able to go before they are asking for the old heave ho. Once they hit that limit, it is just a matter of them seeing how much they can get away with. Let's face it, by the time they get to HS, most athletes are the "alpha" types and want to try and control everything they can, given an opportunity. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, Back to the OP, I haven't used it, but I have heard of some people keeping some kitty litter in their ball bags. Supposedly works until the baseballs get really water logged. Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, THAT IS TOO FUNNY!!! I will be looking for that channel this year! Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, Jim, GREAT to see you here on this forum! I think you will enjoy this site a lot! I am glad to see that Pro-Nine has apparently listened to their potential clients and made the appropriate changes in their gear. I still personally prefer the hard shell on the outside style, but I am happy to see they have made improvements! Bigdog:cool:

Hey all, To me, the best way to prepare for the next level is easy. Every game you work, pretend it is at least one or two levels higher than the level of the game you are working. If you work LL, pretend it is BR, BR pretend it's HS, etc. I don't just mean mechanically or by rule knowledge, but also in how you handle players and coaches and situations that are unexpected/ not covered by a specific rule, like a local ground rule, for example. Hey all, First of all, I love the game! After that, I believe, almost to a fault, that words mean things. The wordings of the rule books have to be interpreted correctly before they can be applied. That means, to me, even trying to understand the intent of the rule being applied. If I can help one manager, coach, or player to understand one rule better, then it is a good day. Bigdog:cool:
