    FYC.

Hey all, I don't believe in using the FYC because once you start to consider using it, IMHO, you start getting emotionally tied to the game against one team. If a player does something that bad, there are other ways to deal with it, i.e. bench restriction, or ejection. Stay emotionally out of the game so it doesn't turn around and bite you in the butt somewhere down the line when your "tainted" viewpoint could affect the outcome of a play, inning, or game. By tainted, I mean that you are looking to send a message with a call instead of making the correct call. Bigdog:cool:
  2. Hey all, Like was said before, there is nothing wrong with combo pants as long as the aren't too tight over the shin guards. I personally wear plate pants behind the plate and combos on the bases since base pants seem to fit me a little tighter in the legs than a tight pair of slacks from the 70's:wow: Bigdog:cool:
  3. Hey all, I, too, am a UNC fan, but this year I will be cheering for U of A(rizona) since my nephew is a freshman on that team! Hopefully he will end up getting a decent amount of PT. Bigdog:cool:
  4. Hey all, Anyone familiar with this mask? Bigdog:cool:
  5. Hey all, In Situation 1, I agree no IFF as long as the catch could not be made with normal effort. In Situation 2, I would say, even though the rule doesn't state it, and as long as we are taking intent of the rule into account, depending how deep into the outfield the ball is hit would determine if I would call an IFF. The rule was written ASSUMING (I know, I know:shakehead:) that the infielder are in their NORMAL playing positions. If F4 moves to a spot in RC, in effect, becoming a fourth outfielder, potentially a 275-300 foot fly ball COULD be caught as an IFF under a strict interpretation of the rule. We can't overlook that the rule is named the Infield Fly Rule, NOT Infielder Fly Rule. So, how far out would you stop considering F4 as an infielder? Bigdog:cool:
  6. Hey all, Unless I'm mistaken, This would limit the bats that are eligible to either -3 or -5. It seems that the -8,9,10... types are mostly of the 2 3/4" variety. Bigdog:cool:
  7. Hey all, Boz, Welcome to the forum!! One thing to remember, it's not how much experience you have, but more the fact that you are willing to learn and get better that will get you better faster. Good Luck! Bigdog:cool:
  8. Hey all, This should be the only coaches helmet necessary......and most of them have this type of transportation. Bigdog:cool:
  9. Hey all, I saw the mark on his cp and was wondering what the mark was. The bright yellow "W" was unmistakable, but I couldn't get a long enough look at the white one. Bigdog:cool:
  10. Hey all, I agree with you, Stan. I work with one guy who insists on using his softball required mechanics during baseball games, i.e. brushing off the bases and the pitching rubber with a plate brush. He won't respond to anyone's situational signals with the same signal, he will make up his own on the fly. I also work with one guy who feels it necessary to situations to the point where I believe it is turning into coaching. He will announce situations like "We have a possible IFF.":wow: Bigdog:cool:
  11. Hey all, I use Firefox and no problems, so far. Bigdog:cool:
  12. Hey all, Ya know, since NOBODY has voted for the Astros, I think that now means that they ARE A LOCK to get into the playoffs!! Bigdog:cool:
  13. Hey all, Mets, Phillies, Cubs, and Dodgers. Bigdog:cool:
  14. Hey all, If you said you fire the warning shot over the MANAGER'S head, then it would be JUSTIFIED!! Bigdog:cool:
  15. Hey all, I CALL BS..... First you say that you just fire a warning shot over your partner's head, then you say ammo is too expensive to waste. So, WHICH IS IT????? Bigdog:cool:
  16. Hey all, I think the fact I work in a prison helps with having to make split second decisions that that are, at least according to some of the parents, managers and coaches involved, potentially life or death situations. Bigdog:cool:
  17. Hey all, I had a game behind the plate this year that I thought, mechanically speaking, was terrible. I felt decent, but not really good, about my zone that day as well. When I came off of the field, a less experienced umpire and I were talking and I told him how I felt. He said back to me that if I thought that I was that bad, then the rest of the umpires must suck really bad. I am not saying that I am that great, just that you generally don't do as bad of a job as you initially fear. Or at least, nobody but you notice. Bigdog:cool:
  18. Hey all, That would seem to be the WRONG time to hold up your hand like a stop sign and give a loud and firm "That's Enough":D She would probably eject YOU! Bigdog:cool:
  19. Hey all, I tell my kids that it is OK to have the fear of God in them, BUT until they get to him, THEY ARE MINE!! Bigdog:cool:
  20. Hey all, I don't care if he is 2'3", as long as he can perform the job requirement of catching and/or blocking the ball in the dirt and prevent them from getting to me. Bigdog:cool:
  21. How about save up 'til you can buy the best gear/ gear you want. I have never heard of an umpire being marked down on an eval because the brands on his gear didn't match, I hope it doesn't start now. True, true.... Bigdog:cool:
  22. Hey all, All I have to say is Brett Favre deserves whatever he gets. He has screwed with the Packers for 4? years on whether he was going to retire. He finally does retire, the Packers draft accordingly, (2 QB's IIRC) then he wants to come back after all that. I am glad that the Pack got rid of him. I used to like Favre, but he has screwed the team around for so many years and then tried to blame them, it just ain't funny any more. BTW, I am not a Packers fan, I just like seeing a player, no matter what talent level, being put in his place by the team saying that "he" is NOT more important than "they" or "we". Aaron Rogers has handled the whole situation with nothing but class. Favre could learn something from him. Bigdog:cool:
  23. Hey all, First thing is to get my knees looked at. Dig through rule books during the off season. If my knees let me, I will hopefully be able to do a Triple Crown Tournament in the fall (My work schedule will be a big factor in that!) Other than that, work on conditioning and getting my health better and better. Bigdog:cool:
  24. Hey all, Sounds like a mandate that requires updating. Bigdog:cool:
  25. Hey all, I will start HS next year, hopefully semi-pro and college not long after that. Then we'll see where it goes from there. So far, I have umpired LL, BR, a men's adult league, and a couple of Triple Crown Sports baseball tournaments under modified Fed rules. Bigdog:cool:
