In Ohio, the Supreme Court ruled a number of years ago that public park systems couldn’t ban firearms/ccw because it’s a public space, and not subject to prohibitions like schools, police departments, gov’t buildings. That could be affected by, let’s say, your local little league. They would technically be a permit holder (such as, the entity allowed to utilize the public space), and they could possibly make that a ban if they wanted to. Also, they’d likely be bound by any Association rules (LL, NFHS, American Legion, etc). I am not an attorney.

I don’t believe this would apply (5-1-1i). This play is not a batted ball in flight. Batted ball, yes. It stopped being in flight at first contact with the ground.

Let’s look at the opposite for an answer that applicably makes sense. Defense pulls an OF in to play either hole on the INF. A ground ball is hit to him and he airmails it into the dugout - anyone gonna award 2 bases from the time of throw? Nope. I don’t care who he is, I care where he is….good example from the post above.

I love how the announcer admits, “I don’t know what was said,”…….But both prior to and after it progresses, he wants to opine on right/wrong/good/bad. Get a clue.

I know that. Unfortunately my partner did not. I was merely pointing out the cringe moment he said it.

You clearly care about the previous relationship. Ok, that’s fine. He doesn’t give 1 **** about it. At that point if it becomes too “uneasy” or whatever adjective you have, then don’t take his games. It will likely get worse before it gets better. I had the same this season. Little league/babe Ruth/high school teammate, got HS licensed together, worked countless leagues and tournaments together, graduated from the same college (I played, he got cut). He moved on to coaching ~5-10 yrs ago and I worked a scrimmage this year for him as a favor. I got cash at the plate (less than regular rate, I let it go the 1 time). No issues during that game, all went well. Fast forward to a HS regular season game, I was not on the crew. From a reasonable source (but not completely confirmed) I hear about a possible incident with him chest-bumping an umpire, and at the end of the game, the AD escorts them off the field. I decided that earlier scrimmage was the last game I’ll work with his school involved. Discretion is the key here.

HS, I’m fine with them. Mine are about 30 seconds, and the 2 min for coach to give ground rules. I honestly don’t know why the hell we do them for summer ball.

Why would this be any diff than a FB ref getting in between 2 players and pushing them apart? Sometimes it requires us to manage situationally and head off any physicality. It’s not inappropriate, malicious, confrontational. In fact, it’s completely the opposite. It’s good management.

I get we’re supposed to work as a team, we’re there to support our partners. When someone is wrong on a call (that we can assist with info or a rule understanding) let’s get it right. If he’s just MSU, try to work it out. First it’s just wrong; second, don’t stick the next crew with it; third, puts you in a hell of a position the rest of the game. I was in a similar situation a week ago. Senior Legion game, I’m PU. R1, OAC is squawking about it to my partner, never says a word to me. Ok, I don’t care. I’m on the line as the next half inning warms up. My partner, for some damn reason has his water bottle in the home dugout. You do you. He and the AC keep bantering and my partner says, “guys, that’s the high school rule, it’s about safety.” I’ve got the same Scooby Doo huh??? as you did….Finally I had heard the AC whine enough why the BU didn’t call it (3rd chat between he and my partner about it). I holler into their dugout, “it was my call!” Nary another peep about it. Teamwork is #1. But, if your partner wants to walk the plank - sometimes you just gotta stand midship and salute him on his way down.
