  1. It really wasn't, these coaches were clueless and told us so at the plate meeting. They were just daddy rec ball coaches who never lost the deer in the headlights look. They were very appreciative of the help and since one of the coaches never really left the 1st base coaches box and was talking to the HTAC, I'd bet there was some discussion about it. They came to the tournament thinking they would loose every game but getting a real baseball experience while getting to attend the CWS. (these were deep pocket parents) It was about the adventure for this hockey team, and pin trading. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  3. Here's one from one of my games last week. 11u national tournament under OBR. Home team is my states #1 team and this organization and HC have quite the reputation for being huge picky vicious pita's. VT is from MN and doesn't quite get the rules of Baseball, they are a hockey team that plays some weird version of rec LL, so they don't understand pitching rules, stealing bases, nor how to even play their positions in the infield. Top of 1st inning HT shuts VT down in 9 pitches. Bottom of 1st, 1HR in the can and a R1. F1 balks his third pitch of the game. He was totally perplexed as were his coaches (they didn't even know what a balk was). We spent a minute or two explaining the balk and we continue. Next batter, now two points on the board and R3, pitcher balks again. Im getting ready to call it when I see the HTHC (former MiLB player) stand up (he never gets off his bucket normally) and shakes his head at me and mouths "no balks for them". I call time to explain what he did wrong without calling it and the HTAC (they have two AC's who were both D1 players) comes on to the field and starts shows the pitcher how to pitch. He spends about five minutes out there, while this is happening, the 1st base AC is walking around to the infielders and showing them how to stand with runners on, where to be with no one on, etc.... The game ended in 3 with a 28 - 3 score, VT's catcher hit a home run in the third and all the HT players lined the base path around the bases to high five him and the other runners as they rounded the bases. The game only lasted 50 minutes. After the game and hand shakes, my parter and I walk to the parking lot right next to the field and watch as the HTAC's spend another half an hour coaching the VT. I ended up seeing the team from MN later in the tourney. They won their next game handily. They were now playing for 8th place and lost but the coaches told me they would have been 3 and gone had it not been for the generosity of the extra coaching. The parents just wanted the team to have a real baseball experience and they were thrilled to get the kids a lesson in sportsmanship and kindness as a bonus. Good for these kids as they are the #1 hockey team in the state at their age. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  5. You'll be less likely to miss one if you slow down your calls. I had a championship game yesterday behind the plate and I didn't have a single snap or question from a coach or a grunt from a catcher. Slap to the glove, think - what did I see?, "ball - outside". 6. Happens all the time here. They come from above. Foul balls in a quad-complex are always falling on other fields. Had one narrowly miss me today in C. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  7. I had a coach yesterday on a tagged third out on a BR heading to 1st ask me if the run counted, umm, no. Not really a funny question normally but one of these coaches is a HS assistant coach and the other was a HS AD. They actually wanted a ruling on it from the site director, which I promptly denied. I just walked away shaking my head and trying not to laugh. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  8. It's been in the high 90s to 100 for the last week. 5 a days are a regular routine during the CWS around here, I did 4 Friday, 7 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday and I'm not even a "long slotter". I've tried to keep it to 4 but that really hasn't worked out. I keep a cooler just outside the gate and exchange cooling towels around my neck every half inning, keep frozen water bottles in the cooler, so I always have plenty of cold water to drink, and eat salted bananas between some of the games. I also don't let site directors push to keep on time after a longer game, we take as much time as we need to significantly cool down and change out. I've seen too many guys drop because they were more worried about keeping a 10 hour schedule from getting 15 minutes behind. Some of us have been changing out every game, doing 2 in a row, in the heat of the day under a clear sky with no shade, has taken more than a few down this week and I don't think it's worth it. Plus in this heat, your gear dries pretty quick so your not wearing sweat soaked gear for 4 hours straight. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  9. I've seen this tried at the kiddie level as a play to confuse the defense in order to move runners knowing the BR is out and with a decent umpire announcing "batter is out". It does work many times as kids get excited about what they believe is a developing play and don't listen to the umpires or can't hear them over the legion of screaming moms. 11. This was from this weekend. Catcher is taking warm-up pitches, ball pops off the ground and nails him in the nethers. He drops to his knees with his hands between his legs, drops to his side, rolls over like a dog, pops up and announces very loudly with his arms raised like he won a trophy "I'm good! I got the nut cup!" Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  14. The catchers mask pads fall out and it's not warranteed by wilson. Stick to the umpire version which I warranteed. I gave my catchers version away. Also, the sizes run smaller in the catchers version. I have the titanium, I love it. I bought at a super discounted rate so I couldn't tell you the weight difference vs. Price and whether it's worth it. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  16. You can also look at@MidAmUmp clinic if you're in the Midwest or parts of the South. Heard great things from our local upper deck, college, and HS guys about going. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  17. It's only going to be 80 here for all of triple crown, just saying.... And it will be my last two weeks in Omaha. [emoji17] Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  18. You should stop in Omaha and grab a few games on your way through. CWS starts on the 15th. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

  20. I highly recommend the officials choice shirts, although the shipping has been longer lately. Probably best for next year. They are the best shirts I own and I own something from every brand, even a few old dalcos. My Smitty's are relegated to lender shirts only. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  21. Welcome! I was looking for an association in a new area and just wound up driving to the fields, found a game going, and asked the field director who booked the umpires. Found the other associations through contact with the first guy. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

What rule set? OBR, F2 made no attempt at a play, I've got nothing here. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
  24. I had a grandpa going crazy a few days ago at a rec munchkin softball game. He kept yelling "but she's taken four pitches!!!" when I gave the count of 1-2. Finally the catcher, who was the granddaughter, got snotty with him and told him if he didn't understand the rules he should keep his trap shut. I'm not sure I hid my laughter very well under my bucket. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

    Balk award

Just a local regular season 12u game. Reg season games are only practice for tournaments and they mean nothing to standings. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
