  2. What is your favorite call of the three listed below? BR out at 2nd when you are the PU and your partner in A went out on a fly ball BR out at 1st on a hot shot to RF where you rotate from A inside and get the whacker at the bag Rotating down from 1B to the plate to get the out on a play at the plate All of those are fun and I've been lucky enough to get each one and look good doing it. My proudest moment as an umpire was calling a BR out at 2nd from the PU position (the first time I had ever made that rotation and made that call in my career) and the offensive coach says, "Great hustle blue." It made me proud to know that I worked hard to get that call right and that the coach who didn't get the benefit of the close call recognized my effort. What is yours?

    Pants

I know the polys look good, but if you want great looking pants with low maintenance, you can't go wrong with the GD pants. Only problem is that they fade after about one full season and begin to have a purplish hue to them...in which case you can transition them to the rec ball rotation and get some new ones for HS/college season. If you elect to go with the PW's, just know that they will last and look great, but it will require you to maintain them with ironing and professional pressing throughout the season. The Plate/Base way to go is the best. Combo is for rookies.
  4. Good job on the game...and when you walked off the field it should have been over. As soon as you got the initial text, you should have taken a screenshot of it, printed it off, and attached it to your state report. A coach that texts an umpire in a negative fashion after a game has ended should be reprimanded. This stuff has to fall on deaf ears...there are too many other schools for you to work at and chances are that if you hang around long enough, you'll work for that school again too because coaches last less than 5 years at most places.
  5. I went to Target looking for Simple Green, but couldn't find any...so I ended up with Green Works All Purpose Cleaner. Been using it all year on my Reeboks...the white is white and the black is clean and shiny.
  6. Sold and shipped...please lock.
  7. I'm very interested in the CP if it can be retrofitted. Can anyone affirm that this model will be accepted by TW?
  8. Nope...I've given it a fair evaluation.
  9. My Unequal is again for sale. Only has 5 games on it. I love the low profile and it fits well, it just isn't what I'm looking for. $175 shipped to the lower 48. PM me...paypal friends and family.
  10. My UE is for sale...pm me if you are interested. It has 5 games on it. Still $175 shipped. That's a fair price...not interested in negotiating.
  11. In FED, that is OBS...score the run.
  12. Why would HP rotate to 3rd for R-3 only? If the ball leaves the infield, he's going to stay home and score the run...then 1B umpire will be in a 1 Runner-1 Umpire situation (it reverts to 2-man) and would have BR into 3rd. If the ball doesn't leave the infield...he stays home plating the run and watching for junk at 1st (interference, pulled foot, etc.)
  13. Seems like we've had 2...maybe 3 of these situations already this year where the umpires eject without warning (which I agree with). Does anyone know of any MLB bosses laying down and edict to the MLB umpires about getting rid of pitchers to prevent later brawls?
  14. Robinson Chirineos with the Rangers appears to be sporting the UE dome under his HSM nowdays. http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/mlb/texas-rangers/kss0q4/picture11873210/ALTERNATES/FREE_960/0301%20Rangers%2010.JPG
  15. Had one this week that barked about a couple of pitches low in the zone...one went against his batter, then one went against his pitcher. He barked pretty loud and I gave him the look and acknowledged his complaint. A stern "You've been heard Coach" was my response. I never had to go to the warning step...but I was certain we were headed down that road and it was way too early in the game for me to tolerate it all night. Fortunately, we had a hard tag/push back situation in the field and he redirected his ire towards my partner then went back to coaching. Sometimes we have to deal with it and sometimes it takes care of itself. I know that I don't want to be the aggressor and I want everyone to know that the coach didn't just tiptoe on the line...when he crosses it, others should know.
  16. As the president of my local association...training new umpires is the thing that gives me more stress than anything else. The learning curve is so steep and there is so much to learn! We hope that we get a few people who know the basics of the game (like the uncaught 3rd strike rule and hands don't come with new bat purchases) before we get them...but that isn't always the case. Add to that the low fees and you have a disaster in the making for coaches at the lower levels. I just wish that people understood that these guys are doing their best...not trying to cheat anyone...and make honest mistakes due to their lack of experience.
  17. If I called safe on a pulled foot, there wouldn't be a discussion because I would have had to be 100% sure that I had a pulled foot to call it...and I would have sold the call pretty hard if close. If you are asking...I'd say that is what got you in a bind to begin with. No need to have a discussion on a call you have a good look at...own it.
  18. To me it just further shows how most coaches don't know the rules of the game. If that kid has indeed pitched all year with that glove, not only is it insane that no other ump has corrected it, it is equally amazing that no opposing coach has demanded that it be removed. Had I not handled it, I doubt very seriously that the opposing coach would have ever said something. Oh Well!
  19. I went from 312 last year to 239 in September. I'm hovering around 250 right now and am no longer "dieting" but just don't eat like I used to. Dropped from a 48 pant to a 38...would like to get to about 230 permanently so that my 38's aren't so tight! Congrats...I know exactly how you feel! Don't blame you one bit for saying it out loud!
  20. In Texas, the HS season is at the half-way point for district...about 2 weeks left. I have a game last night and the starting pitcher for the visiting team takes the field in the bottom of the 1st with a black glove with all kinds of grey trim and leather on it. Before he throws his first warm-up pitch, I tell him to go get a new glove. He tells me that he's used it all year long! SMH! Of course, the coach wants to tell me that I'm the only umpire in a 100 mile radius that has said anything all year long. Amazing!
  21. I second the recommendation to get the shot. I had it bad during a hoops season a few years ago...nothing helped until I got the shot. No problems since and always support the arches...frequent replacement of your shoes and inserts if needed. Getting off the hardwood helped me probably more than anything. Now I just do football and baseball. It helps me tremendously to have a season of rest in between sports.
  22. I took a foul ball last night while wearing my UE...my thumb has a small bruise on it this morning! The UE force field is strong!

    Discernible Pause

I'll tell catchers and pitchers...if you don't want me to make a call, don't cut it that close. The surest way to avoid a judgement call against you is to make sure there can be no doubt in the umpire's mind.
  24. Maven said it...Start/Stop. If we aren't going to call this, what is to stop them from taking 2-3-4 crow hops and delivering from 40 feet?
  25. The rookie didn't know what to do. The vet was the one who offered to leave (as a crew) and the coaches didn't want any part of that. It all came down to the home coach feeling guilty that he didn't handle his sub situation properly...so he wanted to do right by taking his runner off the bag and fixing the BOO. He probably also thought he was doing the rookie a favor by fixing the BOO for him.
