    @SJA I actually kinda don't like her...hounds are LOUD and there's only so many mornings I can handle a bow-ow alarm. But if you pull her ears back and say "WARP SPEEEEEED" it's pretty funny. As for the hunting...whenever somebody with a good southern drawl says "squirrels" she FLIPS. Seems unlikely to buy a purebred Redbone to hunt squirrels though.

    Dogs? My dad's Tennessee red bone hound. She was trained to hunt something, we're not sure what, because when her original owner died, his family thought the best course of action was to tie her to a tree and stop feeding her. She was twenty five pounds when the TN Coon and Hound organization rescued her and after my extended family fostered her for several months, she was my dad's birthday present.

    I am surprised I didn't hear my father screaming my name from the living room when this happened...usually he does...I mean, it still hurt whether or not the umpire geek was there to witness it but it's strange seeing something umpire related at a Mariners game here first.

    Had to take the 12:08 bus to go get Totinos this morning and got this at the bus stop so good morning even though it's now afternoon for most of you. I also witnessed a drug bust right after I took this.

    @MadMax that WAS a three man crew...and yes, all the fields are like that. I've bitched about it plenty before. That's why going to Anchorage is a big deal because the ACTUAL Alaskan League plays in Mulcahy Stadium which is pretty much a gift from God to Juneau umpires. Most of our fields also have no drainage so it kinda sucks to be behind the plate or in the outfield.

    HAHAHAHA. So last night I was like "wow my gear bag smells pretty bad." I opened it up and it turns out that I am that one complete dumbass that didn't wipe all of the rain off of my gear before I stuck it in a nylon bag and my hats, indicators, shoes, and chest protector are now covered in mildew, not to mention it all just reeks. The shoes and hats I know I can just toss in the washer and I'll just rinse off the indicators but does anybody know how to get this gunk out of padding? (Especially when it doesn't come fully apart from the shell.)

    Always liked him. Read somewhere that he was the breed of umpire geek that I am. He's still fairly young too so getting a permanent spot would be neat and also well deserved. (Also I have no idea if he's the one that was behind the @NotAdamHamari twitter but that was amusing while it lasted.)

    @MadMax, well the thing is, he usually wears black/blue so he wears a black mock. Which looks a lot less dumb than a red mock. (And it's a popular thing among MLBers.) I'll probably wear the mock for wrestling practice and keep wearing the gray and red Russell shirt I always have under my shirts. Although, bleaching the shirts doesn't sound like a terrible idea... Hey, for what it's worth, at least my pants aren't heather. And at least I'm wearing a uniform (albeit a completely outdated one) instead of a too-big hoodie and ripped jeans.

    Well, after being shipped from Honigs to Portland, OR, to Seattle, WA, to Denver, CO, to New York, NY, to Denver, CO, to New York, NY, to Seattle, WA, all by land (priority mail, peeps), I got my new shirts. He likes mock necks, so now I have a red mock neck shirt with no purpose...(I can't wear them on the field; makes me feel funny) but the jacket is a variation on those gamer jackets that MLBers (used to?) wear. And the polos are awesome (AND NAVY, SO FIGHT ME) with numbers unattached. Overall very pleased, 10/10, would recommend this mentor.

    So recently our local assigner told me I wasn't doing postseason because I "didn't submit my availability on time" which is so bogus, by the way, I submitted it the same day as everyone else. Anyways, it took him several days to let me know this and when I asked him to let me know if anybody cancelled, he didn't reply. Well, my mentor heard about this while he was here for a tournament, and he told the UIC of all American Legion umpires in Alaska, who turned around and asked me when I can be in Anchorage, because he needs somebody to do state with him. Feels good to be in demand. And I get to use all of this brand new gear that keeps randomly turning up at the post office. !!!
