  1. R1 and R3, no one out. The pitcher comes set and R1 starts running toward 2nd base. F1 turns and throws to 2nd base. a. Balk for throwing to an unoccupied base. b. A pitcher may throw to an unoccupied base if it is an attempt to retire a runner. c. The pitcher must step back legally off the pitcher's plate before he may throw to second. The wording here...are they trying to throw me off? Does F1 just turn and throw while engaged with the rubber? I am assuming so, since it doesn't say he does spins or steps off... It wouldn't be a balk for throwing in an unoccupied base.... so the answer is C, right?
  2. So you have it as legal. Others have it has he must remove him after the first batter. Which is it? This is the only question that is holding me up.
  3. Go to one of the umpire schools. That gets you a good start. I went, didn't get a MiLB job but had the opportunity to work a summer of independent ball. Got my foot in the door. I now typically work around 40-45 college games (D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO) a spring. That is while living in the midwest too.
  4. He had plenty of time, on both occasions.
  5. I am currently watching the replay of from I believe Sunday's game between Penn St and Rutgers. The home plate umpire has had two very close plays at home, and he has left his mask on the whole time while making calls on runners coming into home. Isn't that odd? Are they teaching it differently now? When I went to school, one of the very first things they taught us was to take off your mask. Thoughts?... He is wearing a HSM if that makes any difference
  6. Definitely interested. Pictures?
  7. Some people prefer one over the other when on the stick or on the bases. It doesn't matter though. Unless your association has strictly said to wear one or the other, go with whatever you want.
  8. Do you still do your 3 man camp?
  9. Maybe I got a good batch. But I'm not having these issues with my pants. Been wearing them since the beginning of the year. They sit and "hang" well. I wear them, take them off, and put them back on the hanger. No wrinkles.
  10. I have paris of Honig's Poly-Wools that I purchased in 2013 (Plate) and 2014 (Base). Love them both, and they have been my go to pants the last several seasons. This off-season (February 2016) I purchased the NEW poly-wools. Upon arrival, I could tell/feel a SLIGHT difference. They are not as heavy. But in my opinion still a sturdy and durable pant. The new plate poly wools are slightly tighter starting around the knee and running to the bottom of the pant (that could have just been my tailor). But I still like them. One more thing, I'm a 32" waist. The old poly wools only have 1 belt loop directly behind on the back of the pants. The new poly wools now have 3 belt loops on the back part of the pant. Minor change, but does position my ball bags a little differently.
  11. I pre-game with my partner that with R1 and a bunt scenario I'm staying home. Too much stuff going on around the plate for me to be worried about taking off to 3B. F/F, RLI, tangle/untangle, etc.
  12. No. It's why I asked...
  13. I'm debating on cutting the wings off my Gold... anybody else out there do it? Opinions?
  14. We actually had something like this in a college game yesterday... - Swinging 3rd strike, ball in dirt - ball bounces off catcher attempting to block ball - on the batters back swing he drops the bat to run to 1st base - he contacts the ball (after it had bounced off catcher) with bat and ball trickles up 3B line - BR reaches 1B safely Do we have same things as in video?
  15. Are those on the way inner thigh it appears?
  16. First thing I noticed too. Not a fan. Maybe it will grow on me... I don't know
  17. Uhm, is it just me wondering why a lot of those students at Wendelstedt are wearing sweatpants or jeans??? I know when I went to what was formally known as The Umpire School, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was in proper attire. Just strikes me as odd.
  18. I use McDavid hexpad compression shorts when on the stick. How much do they really help? Probably not a lot but now it is more of a comfort thing for me. I felt lost and insecure the one game where I had forgotten them. I will say I did take one bouncing curveball before and hexpad did a great job on deflecting some potential pain.
  19. Looking for some input, opinion, and recommendation I am needing a pair of gloves that I can wear while working the dish (so need to be able to write, grab balls out of bag, etc.) but also need to be warm enough to keep my baby hands warm with temps in the 30's and wind gusts of 25mph. What say you U-E?
  20. R2, R3, no outs. B3 bunts the ball in the air along the first base line with the runners moving on contact. The first baseman is under the ball and ready to make the catch as he collides with B3, who was not trying to interfere. While R3 had started to retreat to third, R2 was still over two thirds of the way to third base at the time of the collision. a. Dead ball, interference on B3. Since the interference was not intentional, only B3 is called out. All other runners return to their previous base. b. Dead ball, interference on B3. Both B3 and R3 are out. R2 returns to second base. c. Dead ball, interference on B3. B3 is out and so is R2 for the interference of his teammate. R3 returns to third. d. No interference. The batter did not intentionally interfere. This is an example of the "scramble/unscramble" play. B, right? Section 5, E Am I overthinking this one?
  21. Are they too high on the thigh for you?
  22. NCAA meetings not mandatory if you call D2 ball or lower?
  23. Anyone know if this site is legit?
  24. I got myself the thermal Honig's Heavy Weight Major League Jacket for $41.95, almost $30 off. It is still showing the offer available on their website.
  25. Start of the college season. Middle of March I believe
