That's BA. I like how the PU was proactive in coming out to diffuse anything. I do that often as well. It paid off one time, almost all the way down at 1B, and I was there. lol

For the record, this is "follow-through interference", but good job recognizing it. I would only add that this is a delayed dead ball and not an immediate. When it happens, just say loudly "Interference!" and let it play out. F2 might get R1 and you ignore the interference/penalty.

I'm sure many of us have had the ungloved, high and inside fastball drill us straight, square in the mask.......my question is, how do you deal with that? Depending on the level of ball (and speed of the ball), I get really mad..........I'm not going to lie. I will (and have) chewed the F2's butt, but what REALLY got my goat was a comment I heard from a parent in the stands after a mid-80's fastball straight to the mask: "That's what he gets paid for....I don't understand why he's getting pissy." It took everything in my being to not address it. No it is NOT what I get paid for......It is NOT my job to be drilled in the facemask by an ungloved fastball. It IS a risk and hazard that comes WITH the job, and I accept that, but it is NOT "what I'm paid for". Edit: I got on a little rant there about my own problems, thus missing your plight. In FED, no runs score. I'm pretty sure there's a case play on it, which I can't find right now. In other codes, I think it's the same. I don't see how any runs can score, given that the 3rd out is made on a runner forced. The Defense shouldn't need to appeal this, It's our judgment on abandonment.

I'd like to add that your phrasing of "bounces directly into the catchers glove" is immaterial. Once that ball touches dirt, it doesn't matter whether it's gloved immediately off the bounce or goes to the backstop, it's an "uncaught" throw/pitch. Putting @‌basejester's definition of A CATCH with @‌grayhawk's definition of IN FLIGHT gives complete supporting information for the ruling.

Absolutely. What goes into our decision? Age level Is the person calling TIME trying to toy with the opponent? (advantage/disadvantage) Is a batter requesting TIME way too often? (delaying the game) We'll ALL tell you we have very little patience if we think someone is intentionally delaying the game. I'm sorry that your umpires didn't meet your expectations, but having not been there, I can't say whether they were right or wrong. Others on here will give you how THEY would umpire your game, but ultimately, you need to address your concerns with 1) the umpires for your game (RESPECTFULLY) and 2) possibly the assignor if this is a repetitive problem.

@‌JHSump, To me, it's no different than the Tejada play. If memory serves, Tejada was called OUT because he gave himself up and did not continue to run, much the same as I would have ruled on this play. Had he tried for 3B and got tagged out, he gets 3B. Had he tried to get back to 2B and got tagged out, he gets 2B. IMO, it matters that he gave himself up/ didn't try to get to 3B/ didn't try to get back to 2B. He just gave up and expected an awarded base. What was he "obstructed" from doing exactly? (At 1:32ish of the video) Does it matter that the ball was coming in to F4, in relation to what the BR was doing at that moment? Did this factor into the long umpire discussion? (I think it did) Edit: Upon a 4th view of the video, did the BR give up b/c of Joyce's call of OBS? That throws a whole new wrinkle into it.

@‌ElkOil, I would submit to you that this coach isn't the one teaching, nor bitching about HIS kids taking these delays. He's obviously frustrated with a recent game in which time was a HUGE factor and he was not on the prevailing side. Coach, although I commend you for your own specific pace-of-play rules within your team, we need some context here. What age level was this? As a general rule, we allow a lot of leeway for younger kids. FWIW, "I get tired of 10-14 year olds being human rain delays" is GOLD. I'll be trying to fit that into some conversation soon.

Was the stone wall of the dugout discussed during the pre-game meeting? I assume it was "in play" since you allowed all of this. In 99% of my games, the stone wall of the dugout is OUT of play........that's why I ask. I think your scenario would throw me off as well if I wasn't expecting it. I can empathize with you.

To expound, in #1, this is not the first base to which he is forced, hence the time play aspect. If it HAD been the 1st base to which the runner was forced, no runs would score. That answer explains the answer to question #2.
