To all. Excerpt from article on USA today The "Berry Amendment," is a federal law that that requires the Department of Defense to buy American-made goods when possible. Recruits today in the Army, Air Force and Navy can use a one-time $80 allowance to buy foreign-made shoes as an exception to the "Berry Amendment," a federal law that that requires the Department of Defense to buy American-made goods when possible. The Marine Corps only offers a general clothing allowance that does not specifically apply to shoes. The Berry Amendment has not applied to running shoes in the past because there were no entirely American-made shoes on the market. But the 950v2 can fit that bill. New details about the shoemaker's 950v2 sneaker emerged after a visit from lawmakers on Aug. 19 to a New Balance factory in Lawrence, Mass. The prospect of an all-American-made shoe has lawmakers interested, and New Balance is not the only company eyeing a potential military contract. The question is whether prototypes can pass muster with the Defense Department. "We wanted to make a shoe with the highest technical performance, but also light, and it's going to be durable enough to withstand any conditions or terrain," New Balance spokeswoman Caitlin Campbell said. The sneaker's aesthetic design is derived from the company's ultra-marathon shoe, the Leadville 1210 but made entirely from U.S.-sourced materials. The original shoe was made with the 100-mile Leadville Trail Marathon in mind. "The shoe is made from different materials, and it has a different color wave, black and silver, sort of an understated, conservative look," Campbell said. I propose that we umpires lobby our associations to make this the standard “field shoe†for our guys and gals. I certainly intend to buy all of our < 2 year guys this shoe. Comments please. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/09/01/new-balance-sneaker-prototype-boot-camp/14940075/

@BaltimoreUmpire, if you've learned _anything_ on this forum... when you make outlandish statements... provide photos!! @JaxRolo is right, @Tksjewelry, using a Balloon will actually hamper your progress rather than facilitate it. You're going to get a whole mess of posted responses regarding this. I do understand, though, that you're going right for one of the best CP's on the market (A modified WV), and it would appear to be overkill for 10U and lower level ball. The thing would probably be a sauna-with-straps in those 2 hour long snoozers under a Great Plains roasting sun. I myself have considered getting a less complex CP on the cheap, such as a Schutt Scorpion, or a ProNine CP-P2, or a Champro AirTech CP8, or a Diamond DCP-U Lite. Heck, I might even get a Honig's FastPitch Elite! The one challenge with that, though, is I'm 6'2", and could perhaps use the abdomen protection. Maybe a welding or shop apron would be better. Seriously, though, I worked 6 games behind the plate of high-school ball on a weekend, then worked a solo 9U game on that Monday evening. I got hit more times in that game than all 6 of the high school games _combined_. I'm pretty sure the catchers were hiding behind me. Yeah, I've had 8u rec Catholic league games that were walk fests. I've learned to go ump those from the mound after taking about 20 shots cause they want every kid to pitch and catch every game. Kids, coaches, and parents are great but I'm not willing to be a "hit the umpire" carnival game back there for them.[/ "hit the umpire" carnival game" So true! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can either command or demand respect BUT when you lose it you have lost control of the game and you have failed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Come on, man, I deeply respect your posts on most issues, but this is a slur and a direct attack on the umpire's integrity and an open accusation of cheating. Don't be That Guy, there's plenty of them in the stands and the dugouts.
Point well taken.
I may have been a too hard on this guy.

I will admit I am not very familiar will LL rules. My group dropped all LL parks 4 years ago because of the rules and structure of the leagues.

My accusatory post of this well meaning volunteer was out of line BUT my baseball savvy wife who was 800 miles away texted me her opinion of 2 different strike zone just as I was forming my own opinion.

But shame on me for being a BFR on this one.
Don't let it happen again! You know the type of person I am Chief.
