Yeah yeah. VT ended up scoring 8 runs in top of 8th and won 9-3. So just a weird ending to a game we were cruising through.

After thinking about it after the game, I was pretty sure we made the wrong decision and thus why I posted. We ended up saying that the play was dead due to my partner's dead ball call. I realize it didn't effect the action. My thinking at the time of our discussion was it is similar to the FED "once you call it foul its foul concept" and the ball was dead. We put R2 back at 2nd and enforced the CO and put the batter at 1st. We should have let the play stand in hindsight. My partner owned it to the coach and said it was his fault. He called the dead ball and he had to eat it. Luckily the HT didn't score in the bottom and the VT ended up winning. The run we took off the board would have been the game winning run otherwise.

That an interesting question. The ball went directly back to the catcher's mitt, therefore he can still catch the ball for the out. I think you still have INT because the opportunity to make the out was interefered with.

Had a strange situation come up last night. Interested to see what the other guys thoughts are. I'll post what we ended up doing after some people chime in. FED rules. Varsity District Game: Top 7, 1-1 ballgame. 1 out with R2. I'm BU in this situation. Batter swings and hits catcher's mitt (catcher's obstruction) and the ball goes into RF for a hit. The play continues. RF comes up throwing trying to get R2 coming home. Ball is overthrown. B/R ends up at 3rd after play ceases. PU calls time and HT coach comes out and says "hey you said dead ball". Pitcher and Catcher both say the same thing. Partner and I get together and he says "yes, I signaled delayed dead ball, but then put my hands up and said dead ball". What do you do here?

This is not a force play. This is a time play. The run scores because R3 crosses the plate before the 3rd out is made due to an appeal.

I have used the WV Platinum for nearly 8 yrs now as well. Put a delta flex on it, and never again worry about getting hurt by a ball to your chest protector. I am sure there are many other CP's that work great too, I am just going from what I know.

I have been to it twice. The non-advanced camp. Worth every penny and the training and contacts I have gotten have been invaluable. I plan on hitting up the Kansas City camp this year if possible. Will help you master the 2 man system and improve your mechanics 1000%. On top of just being a lot of fun and a great group of guys.

I don't disagree Richvee, but I think that is stretching the play. I think its better to keep it simple here. I would be answering B on this question if it was me.

Don't read it this way Storm. It's just saying there is a runner at 3rd. They will usually specify if he is in contact with the base. Don't assume he is in contact with the base. And he is entitled to stay on the base as long as the interference is not intentional. In this case they are implying, in my opinion, he is not in contact with the base and interferes with the opportunity to make the play by the 3rd baseman Ahh ok. I guess I've thought of it the other way so long I didn't remember.

I got 11 wrong then. Think I put that it reverts to the previous inning since they equaled the number of runs. Thanks for the clarification. 2) That's what I put. Only get R3 since the ball was foul. Just wasn't positive if NCAA was any different. Thanks noumpere.

MY wendelstedt manual has a similar ruling. Runner cannot correct a missed base after the third out is made.

I squeaked by with my 85. But there were quite a few questions I wasn't positive on,

A couple questions i was unsure on. One question had to do with what was the score of the game if the home team was up 2-0 at end of 6. VT scores 4 in top 7, HT scores 2 in bottom 7 and is still batting but game gets rained out. What is the proper score? The wording in that section of the rulebook was a bit confusing because it referred to if the HT scored the same number of runs as the VT, the score reverts to the prior completed inning. However I wasn't sure if it meant same number of runs overall, or in that particular inning. What's the verdict here? The other one is on the play where R3 intentionally interferes with a foul fly ball. Do you get both R3 and B/R here since there was intentional interference? Or only R3 since it was a foul ball? Still getting used to there having to be intentional interference to get 2 in NCAA (except FPSR).

My first 2 are Saturday. And may get to call a D1 scrimmage tomorrow.

The question is would you use this mechanic since you didn't see a touch of home plate. For plays at the plate you usually don't do anything. Using the mechanic could indicate that you have a touch of HP. It's a weird play for sure.

I used the rule book a lot and not ashamed to admit it. But I am also very used to FED rules and rarely if ever call OBR. A lot of difference, plus the rules surrounding whats an official game, pitching infractions, suspensions, etc we don't deal with in FED.

Taking the test made me realize how much I have to learn about the rules still. Definitely a bit nervous since I haven't called NCAA ball before
