I was doing a tour of Chase Field (Home of the Diamondbacks) The umpire room door is one of the few doors that uses Braille.

For my football group, we get paid by the home team at the field so Arbiter shows zeros for game fees.

The issue most people, such as myself, have with Mr Cathy is not with what he said. He has every right to believe what he wants and I believe that the mayors of the cities are wrong to ban CFA based on his views. What has some people upset is the fact he not only spends his money trying to take away the constitutional rights of tax paying Americans, but he gives money to the group behind the "Kill the Gays" bills in Africa. A few months of months ago the roles were reversed when JC Penny hired Ellen Degeneres, a popular talk show host who happens to be gay. The people on the right did the same thing the gay rights supporters are doing, yet there wasn't a thread here on this UMPIRING forum supporting JC Penny's right to do buisness they way they please. I have been an umpire for 6 years. During these 6 years, I've had to hide in the closet to make sure no coaches, players, parents, or worse other umpires found out that I was gay. For a lot of them this would have given them more ammo to use on the field. What they and most people need to realize is that gay or straight, sexual orientation has no place on the field. Trout, Just as you have the right not to patrinize places that support gay rights, I have the right to not patrinze places that oppose gay rights. Though if you are truly serious about not giving support to companies that support gay rights, I'll miss you around here, you bring a lot of knowlege about umpiring to these boards, but both Apple and Mircosoft strongly support gay rights, not to mention, Alan Turning, the father of modern computing was a gay man. So by using your computer to post here, using either a Windows or a MAC, you are supporting companies that support gay rights. I know that I won't change your mind regarding this issue, but a few closing questions for you to ponder on your drive to your next game: What if your Child, Nephew, or Brother came to you and said they were gay? Would you want them to have the same rights to be happy that you have? Or would you disown them like so many before you? Or perhaps you'd send them to shock theropy despite science's proof that it doesn't work? What would you do?

Oregon considering banning Indian related School Nicknames
LA ump replied to BT_Blue's topic in Off-Topic/Funny Stories
It's ironic. My group serves 94 schools and the only one that would be affected by this is the Indian school that uses the Braves as their mascot. -
I have to listen to a certain song on the way to each game.
-
I went to the school with the injured player.
-
I am for 30-45 mins prior, earlier if I haven't been to a field before.
-
How is this FPSR? There is no slide in OP.
-
so far this week our group has gotten 3.5 games out of 62 scheduled played.
-
I lived in AZ for many years and played HS ball there, not too far from where you are at.
-
So far all games up here have been canceled due to snow. Can't wait to get onto the field.

If you check out the link below, it gives all the info how ours works. http://www.salembaseballumpires.org/

Tupac would be a little wierd riding a scooter since he has been dead for a few years. Mila Kunis is also the voice of Meg on Family Guy.

"Integrity, sportsmanship and character are all factors in how one is elected into the HoF. If your name is surrounded in controversy with illegal substances, it needs to be taken into consideration. It would go against the factors listed." If the above statement is true, then half the people in the HOF should tossed out. It's full of racists like Ty Cobb and Cap Anson, drunks like Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, but voters back in those days looked at what was done on the field.

Situation: Bottom 5, 0 outs. Runner on first. Batter hits a long fly ball to left that lands in deep left field. Ball and Runner get to third base at the just about the same time. I see the tag on the helmet before the runner's foot touches the base. I wait a second to make sure the F5 has possession of the baseball and call my out. Meanwhile the HC who is in 3rd base coaches box is calling him safe. After my out call, he starts yelling at me from the 3rd base box. At one point he yells "Had you been in better position you would have seen he was safe." I dumped him as I felt this was a personal attack as well as showing me up. Was I too quick on the toss? PS: Was a great game, Home team with two strikes and two outs on a 2 run double in the bottom of the 7th with their coach watching from the parking lot.

I had something similar yesterday in which Ball four goes to the backstop and the on deck batter picks it up.

Coach just forfieted the game right here. Respond with Coach, I accept your forfeit or if he has an assistant let them that if he doesn't leave that the team will forfeit the game. Other than that see if you can avoid getting it to that point. You said you repeatedly warned him. Instead, here is what I do, others may correct me if they want. 1st. time he has an offensive confrence, say loud so everyone can hear, "Coach, that is you one confrence this inning," If he has another one in the same inning, "coach, by rule you only get one per inning as such by rule you are now restricted to the dugout." If he presses then he has ejected himself, because you gave him ample time to correct himself.

I found this post on "Umpire's Fault they lost" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month July, 2010"

I'm in the Willamette Valley. I do some games out towards the coast though.

I had an instance where a kid was wearing a Live Strong bracelet that my partner and I didn't see. Kid slid head first into home and the bracelet got caught on the Catcher's Cleats and the runner took the catcher's leg with him as he slid. Since this incident, I always make sure to get jewelery off the players. When I'm checking hats and bats, I remind them to take off all jewelery, then at the plate conference I remind the coaches, then if someone is on the field with it, I remove it. After that I start tossing. I feel that 3 warnings is more than enough.

I've had this happen a couple of times and been told two different things by my fellow umps. The Offensive team will start yelling "runner" ( such as a defensive player will yell when runner is stealing) as the pitcher is starting his delivery in an effort to get the pitcher to balk. I've had some partners tell me this is interference and batter is out. I've also had partners tell me this is nothing. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the replies Guys. She was sitting right by the dugout. It seems like each year I have something weird happen. Like Last HS game of the season last year, I had a coach and a player on his team go at it in the dugout. The other players had to restrain them both. Oh well, I guess it keeps me on my toes.

I was behind the plate working a HS freshman game. This game has a mercy of of 10 runs after 5. Going into the Top of 5, I ask the home book the score. The book is being kept by a parent of one the players. She states to me that I don't need to know that, it shouldn't affect me and refuses to tell me. I handled it by talking to the coach telling him what happened and had him tell me the score and he talked to the parent. How would you handle this situation?

Hey All, I've been umpiring now for about 4 years. I'm always looking for ways to improve my self.
