Anyone familair with Babe Ruth rules? Do they allow for dead ball appeals, or do they mandate a regular OBR appeal? In younger age divisions I think the problem doesn't need and explaination. Thanks!

Wow! Are you kidding me? Where is there interference by F2? If the batter swings you might have a case, but in that play you have nothing, nothing, nothing and nothing. PU shouldn't have given a safe sign, but who hasn't done that? Great thread.

I receieved and e-mail from the site owners today. Very nice note. Will report more later.

What kind of sin visor do you have in the silver frame wilson mask? Rolo the SINER I hope your visor hides you from the sin you see on the field. If you need counseling about this sining, let me know

http://www.go-stop-call.com/belgard_protector.html You ought to take a look at this site. Has a ton of interesting stuff on it. It looks like they have about a million color combinations of mask padding with a very different design to it. Looks comfortable to me quite frankly. But the posted URL is to the protector page, That protector looks very interesting. It has several different designs over a basic pad set. I assume the more expensive ones have more padding and/or some kind of hard shell over the inner padding. The shoulders look very well armored, and it looks like they reinforced the area of the heart with different and extra padding than the rest of the protector. It looks pretty thin up top so it might not fit broad chested and big shouldered people, but I kind of like it. It also has a bunch of colors to it, They have a bright gray/off white color and an off white/bright gray with a gold chest area that look good in photos, along with black ones. If anyone could translate the site fromJapanese it might be interesting to look at them. As to another poster above I agree with his point, but if the protector they sell is made in Japan as opposed ot the US it's a lot better than all the manufacturers who build their stuff via slave labor in China. As a side note they sell +POS stuff, including the famous Joe Brinkman scraper plate brush, and shin guards. I wish they had old +POS harnesses, they were good. Interesting enough they didn't have any of the small plate brushes Jim Evans used to sell that were supposedly all the rage in Japan a few years ago. I will send off an e-mail to them and see what I get in return! Note: they also sell team Wendy pads!

Hi men, I am sure most of you will be bored by such mundane things as this post, but for those of you in HS association hierarchies I want to ask: "What are some successful things you use to retain young umpires in your association?" I have a training class for new umpires every year, along with the local SB guys. We train guys, I check on them during the season, keep my door open for questions, and do everything i can to help them. Next year, most of them don't renew their HS card, and by three or four years in the game only a few survive. We are not a big association by any means. We seem to have a good number of SB umpires, especially since if your not willing to work it's an easy game to call (IMO) on an average or below average level. But the BB umpires are dwindling in number and if I wanted I and two or three other guys in the group could work 50 games in the HS season. We need young men to do the job the kids need, and who care about the game. Thanks for your assistance.

Never too old big guy! I'm wondering if you could get a Carlucci off someone if somebdy can't do a little work on it and make it fit for you. Soor you can't have mine. Or even somone like Douglas coiuld custom make one, they have to do it with their FB gear, why not with a CP?

If this isn't cool, then I don't know what is!

Dang, I'm only 6'4" and I can wear Size 15 4e if i can find them. You make me feel a lot better about life Big Ump. Hope you can replace your gear. Drop me a line sometime maybe I can help out....
-
Did you bring your clone to the game and let him work an inning? Don't worry about it If this is the only mistake you've made this season you are way ahead of eveyrone else on the site. Congratulations!
-
Jax and Kyle, You can wear white Converse All-Stars with a Tuxedo but is it apporpriate or just something to draw attention to yourself? To wear an adjustable hat is a signal you really don't care about looking like a professional umpire. I hope he decides to start wearing bright red SH*#s in the summer months so it looks good and consistent with his headware. I'll obviously never be as good as he is adjusted to be since I 'll never be in The Show, but at least I look sort of professional when I'm on the field.

Ohio does not require it's use either. FED won't require it until a need is shown for it.
-
It's an embarassment, why someone in the office or another veteran crew chief doesn't talk to him about this is beyond me. If I ever saw him at a game I'd present him with one after the game.
-
IMO. there hasn;t been a good umpire hat/cap made in years. They are all awful. I hope somone will start making good ones again soon.

did this this season, center of plate. mid thigh in a college game F2 misses, and I got ripped by mgr and assigner.

You owe my a new keyboard after I spit coffee over mine....

+1 here! and if the coach gets mean or continues dump him without a 2nd thought, especially if he's the Home team coach.

Suspended game or Revert to last completed inning???
jkumpire replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Situations
In Ohio it's a suspended game. -
+1. Other than a JUCO league I am assigned to I have never gotten a ball in college game that wasn't rubbed up. Freshmen have to earn their scholarship money somehow!
-
More and more it seems on upper levels PU will give location it missed at. <ego> I think know I have a great and conistent zone </ego> but IMO it's a bad idea. But you might want to consider doing it.

When I saw one of these CP's my first thought was that the owner needs to send them to Douglas for another set of shoulder pads. But the term 'UE Douglas Douglas just doesn't go together, neither does 'UE UE'. If you have one I hope it works well for you.
