Where do I start.LOL i leave for PBUC on mon, ( I'm driving down which is almost 10 hours) we are going to a pre clinic with a an instructor at Harry's for a refresher. I report to PBUC on Weds.. I have not been told to not talk on Message boards ( yet) i know it is coming..LOL Some on was talking about the difference between guys who have been trained professionally or amateurs.. Big thing is hustle, Timing, presence, rule book knowledge, mechanics... Handling situations is fun, and no two situations are alike. yes what KCfan told about the 4 things is a good way to handle things.. Coach.. Mike where is that pitch Me.. i had it outside... he asked a question, so answer it... if he keeps asking tell him " hey where not going do this all game... Coach " where the F*&k is that pitch Me... Hey knock it off.... this is a warning for arguing balls and strikes.. ( you do not have to tell him directly to not argue balls and strikes.. knock it off, that's enough.. etc..etc will do ) Next pitch Coach... Hey that pitch is a strike Me.. your done... now your probably not gonna get the cruse words at the amateur level. But at the Pro level we will... I had been to a bunch of really good 3 man college clinics.. and thought I was doing pretty good, heck I already was getting Non Conference D1 games without a pro school.. But know things are slow to me, I have more confidence on the field, im not as timid, or afraid of a argument, the school gives it to you.. I became really good friends with a guy who went to Jimmy's last year, and he still learned stuff at Harry's.. which one is better? Well for Me Harry's, ask KCfan or Moblue they will tell you Jim's.. but the point is you went and learned.. and was trained professionally.. I was talking to my partner today,a nd said if you have the money and time, and ever thought of going, pull the trigger, it is a lot of fun, you learn a bunch, and make some really good friends.. BTW Daytona Beach is Nice in jan I saw from My balcony Dolphins and whales..it was only in the 50's one time, the rest it was upper 60's and even hit 80 once...LOL
-
Mike, please don't tell me that was you doing the "Leslie Nielson" strike 3 call from Naked Gun , ........was it ?!?! Hell no... I was int he pic of the guys in our plate stance.. and toward the end we had a group meeting, and I was in the crowd...LOL
-
I got to talk with Jim, and he said he thought he knew baseball, well after he was done with his 3 days, taking test and working a game, he said he knew nothing...LOL He was a good guy and very Humble, he had fun out there... his 1st test he took he did well... and then they started to get harder..LOL
-
This was fun.. I am in the pic on the article.. and in the video... He was a nice guy, and had fun while he was there. he really didn't know how hard we have it.

If you say these are stiff and bulky, What did the 450's look like to you? Stiff and Bulky Compared to my Reeboks anyway. Yea, no joke.. I have a pair of the 450's at home, wore them for almost a season, put them up once i got my Reebok's.. BTW the new base shoe look is really ugly

The white is what makes them look good.

there are 2 types of OBS, Type 1 is when a play is being made on a runner ( i.e. a rundown, a runner coming into a base/plate..) This is always a 1 base award. Type 2 is when no play is being made on a runner, like in the OP.. But just cause there is OBS doesn't mean you are gonna give the BR 2nd on a base hit to F9, If in the umpires judgment, had OBS not occurred, the BR would have reached 2nd, then yes we would award him 2nd. but if we didn't think the BR would have gotten 2nd, your not gonna award 2nd just cause we had OBS... make sense?
-
no fair, the fed book, is really poorly writing, so that doesnt count...LOL but since I never read the fed book, I wouldnt know that the fed book says that..LOL So I guess in one small way I can eat some crow.
-
mazza, you're missing the key ingredient: fly ball. "A fly ball is a batted ball which rises an appreciable height above the ground." In the OP, did the ball rise an appreciable height? I don't think so. I saw this in the rule book also. And that is basically my question. What is your Guideline for Appreciable. you did not see this in the rule book. rises to an appreciable height...where do you guys get this stuff... Heck I just spent 4k to learn the rules, the IFF rule we had to write down word for word...
-
mazza, you're missing the key ingredient: fly ball. "A fly ball is a batted ball which rises an appreciable height above the ground." In the OP, did the ball rise an appreciable height? I don't think so. I will buy you dinner, if you can show me in the rule book where it says that... QUIT reading into it so frickin much... An INFIELD FLY is a fair fly ball (not including a line drive nor an attempted bunt) which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, when first and second, or first, second and third bases are occupied, before two are out. The pitcher, catcher and any outfielder who stations himself in the infield on the play shall be considered infielders for the purpose of this rule.
-
You also have to judge if he intentionally dropped the ball to make that call. Tough call Jax. I've had it happen and I have seen it happen. Sometimes $hit happens. Surprise is an umpires worst enemy. . If you intentionally drop a IFF it is nothing, and the ball is still live.
-
wasn't high enough? I dont see that in the rulebook.. It says a infield fly is a "fair batted fly ball, that can be caught with ordinary effort." So you as the umpire need to judge, can this ball be caught with ordinary effort, if so then it is a IFF.

I didnt read where R1 was stealing, so if he had acquired 2nd at the time of INT, then yes he would be allowed to stay at 2nd.. Rule7.09c and 7.08g
-
James is the DDB mechanic a Fed thing.. it is retard if so.. just Point and say "that's Obstruction"
-
How would you rule if F2 was trying to make a play on R1 going to second? Using your answer, you would rule nothing. That would be incorrect. The batter is responsible for his actions. Although he unintentionally crossed the plate, he can still be guilty of INT. If the catcher caught the pitch cleanly - yes. Once the pitch is past the catcher it's a different ballgame. the catcher catching the pitch has nothing to do with it... the rule says " if the batter intentionally or unintentionally intefers, hinders, or confuse a defensive player.."
-
BRis not going to 1st base, he did no tbecome a runner in this play.. R3 out , R1 back to 1st, Batter back to bat with a 1-0 count.
-
your not a moron, just had a brain fart..LOL
-
But the approved ruling states "If all runners ... have advanced at least one base..." I'm thinking R2 scores, BR to second (two bases from TOP). If that was the case, the AR would not need to be published. Read it closer. Key on "...from the time the wild throw was made." But it does make a difference... "did all runners advance one base?" No because R2 didnt score... R2..score 2 base TOP BR..2nd base Top
-
Only if the batter and all runners advance a base safely,
-
R2 3-2 count, the pitcher balks ( didn't some set) and delivers the pitch, which is a ball. What happens next?
-
R2 is awarded 3rd, and R1 stays at 2nd... The ball is dead immediately . However, the umpire can award bases that the runner would have gotten had Obstruction not occurred. So in this play, the umpire could award R2 home, and since R1 was on 2nd he would get home as well.
-
MLBUM 6.23 (3) Runner is on second base when the batter-runner is obstructed after reaching first base. The umpire intends to award the batter-runner second base on the obstruction. What happens to the runner on second? Ruling: Runner on second is awarded third base. This is exactly what they said. Plus its not our job to care about poor baserunners. You see the obstuction you award the BR 2nd and forces R2 to third. Period no other choices. you can't award bases just cause there was OBS...you have to look and wonder..
