Rawlings makes a titanium mask, LWMXTI , which is significantly more expensive, at near $200. Team Wendy makes great replacement pads. That said, you need to ensure that the frame/pad combination fits YOUR face. You're going to get lots of opinions on gear, but if doesn't fit you, they're less than worthless, as we're talking about safety equipment. A properly fitting mask should have pads that contact your face in such a way that the energy is disbursed over a large contact patch. If the pads only touch in a few points, that's where the force is being focused. So fit is key. What works on my face, may not work on yours.

I wear the LWMXTI-B, it is titanium and is a great mask. I use TW pads in it and they fit and work well. I put the original pads in a mask I use for catching. The mask is light, great visibility and having the inside black takes the glare away. The models you listed are much less expensive and are made of hollow tubing. I have never seen one, so I refuse to say cheaper or less of a mask.

Hey everyone, I just had to send out a message. This past year I had the opportunity to attend two different camps of which the Mid American 2 man camp was one. This fall, I heard some guys ridiculing camps in general, saying things to the effect of "they just want your money", or "it's just a hoop to jump through". I'm not sure how camps may have fairly or unfairly earned that reputation, but I am so thankful that the Mid American camp does NOT fit those critiques. Today I had a couple questions about the upcoming season and not wanting to seem like too big of a "newbie", I messaged a couple instructors from each camp. The response was both informative as well as encouraging. Part of what you invest in when you go to a camp is relationships...thank you MidAmUmp for providing quality instructors who not only care about those they are working with during the camp, but are willing to invest in them throughout the year as well. If you are looking for a great Christmas present to give yourself this year...get to a camp!

I think that most people that think like this have either gone to the wrong camps or think that they are better than they actually are and don't get anything out of the camps they attend.

My wife and I are planning to get up to Alaska, I will let you know when we are heading that way. I love umpiring, but love coffee more!!!!! You guys should really petition LL National for some of that ESPN money for field maintenance/drainage. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!
