Shooting for "42 The Jackie Robinson Story" started this week in Birmingham, Al. I sat in the shirtsleeves at Rickwwod Field (The oldest ballpark in America) and cheered for MiLB Jackie wearing #9 playing for Montreal. It was a VERY long day, and I wasn't getting paid for it, but just maybe I will see a blur of my face on the silver screen. "42" starring Harrison Ford (Branch Rickey), Lucas Black (PeeWee Reese), Chadwick Bozeman (Jackie Robinson). Set to premier in theaters next April. There were some paid extras there, but I won the grand prize raffle, ipad2 16gb. Cool. Also note former MLBers on cast. Pete Smith (Braves). I met some good folks and got a $400+ ipad to boot!

So shooting wrapped up at about 2:00 am, and I'm euphoric. I spent the past 3 days on the set. I met some amazing people. There was so much baseball knowledge all around me. Former AAA umpire Andy Roberts and I hung out and talked. Turns out he lives about 8 miles from me. He was 5th in his Academy class and an instructor at HWUA. Really cool guy. World series pitcher pete smith. former Minnesota Twin Davis May bummed Copenhagen often. Amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity. Most everybody was friendly and hospitable. Can't wait for the movie to come out around Jackie Robinson day 2013.

Posing with a bat that was given to me by executive producer. Autographed by Lucas Black, Pete Smith, and a bunch I can't read. Good times.

Fellow umpires may notice that I'm wearing my Smitty base pants. Wardrobe said no khakis, so..... :D

I tried to upload a pic of me and Lucas Black in his Pee Wee Reese wardrobe, but keeps telling me the file is too big. That sucks. He's a real character. Right before the director yelled action, he hollered from the on deck circle, "Roll Damn Tide!" Got lots of hootin and hollerin from the extras. Funny stuff. He's from Speake, Alabama in Lawrence County near Decatur. I told him I googled his hometown, and the population is 5 when he's there.

What did you think about Trouble With The Curve? Me and my wife saw it last Friday, thought it was pretty good. Not as much about baseball as I has thought it would be though.

I know how you feel. I got to do the same for thing for the Film, Struck By Lighting, Staring Chris Colfer, Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks. I was even lucky enough to be invited to the opening in LA. It's such a thrill to see yourself on the big screen for the first time even if only for a second or two.

Ahhh, Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The oldest baseball stadium in the world. And home of countless games for me, including my first HS game, and my first collegiate game, too.
