OK....i'll get this out of the way now - it started with me having a wrong count.:bang:

So i was doing a u14 game. game was long and poorly played - the score kept see-sawing back and forth...and not a hint of complaint about a pitch or a call all day. I have the plate. Its the 6th inning and the visitors are on defense....I give a count of 3-1 on a batter (this one I had right) and the coach from the dugout asked me (very calmly and matter of factly I thought) if I would check with my partner on the count..he came up 3-1 also and no one responded and as the next pitch comes in I hear them grumbling to each other that I had the count wrong...the kid gets a hit, and we move on...maybe 2 batters later they ask the count and give 2-0 (this is the one I got wrong..more on that later) and the coach immediately jumps up from the bench to the fence and yells (and really yells)..HE FOULED ONE OFF AND THATS THE SECOND ONE THIS INNING...THATS TERIBLE (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT)...i called time and took my mask off and told him that was enough...he yelled somemore and as I was ejecting him my partrner could see that it had immediately gone bad and was jogging over and stepped between us..the guy was in my face and said he wasnt leaving....my partner did a great job of steering him out and he continued with him a little bit but then left and the game continued without incident...if he had given me a scond I would have acknowledged that I had it wrong and changed it, but he was an immediate a-hole...I did correct it when the batter resumed his at bat.

i've tossed players twice (one adult and one kid) but this is my 1st coach

i missed the count...2nd game of the day after working my regular job...lost my concentration I guess...hopefully i'll learn from it like i try to from everything, good or bad, that happens out there

If he lost it like that over having a wrong count then somehow I get the feeling that game was not going to end without you having to dump him. If not that then something else. Probably mad because his team was playing crappy.

This is where it can often be difficult to remain focused and losing the count can be more apt to happen.

I know its happened to me and I end up praying put the effen ball in play.

POLITELY bringing up the pitch that was fouled off would have, more likely than not, resulted in you checking on the count, correcting what you had, and the game moving forward. This is just another example of a rat going ballistic and getting tossed when he could have resolved the problem and stayed in the game by simply behaving like a civilized adult.

But then they wouldn't be RATS.

Fantastic toss. Don't beat yourself up about losing the count. It happens.

Second post = revival of 2.5-year old thread.  Love it!  Will shuffle things up a bit.

Double-score on heading straight to the ejection threads!
