Well that lasted about as long as the good feelings coming back from Covid did

@Thunderheads … merge ‘em please!  (And no, I don’t mean create some strange hybrid umpire which everyone screws up and calls Umpenstein when we all know he is Umpenstein’s creation!)

Probably not because they don't want to be accused of being racist.

Umpire hating is higher up the intersectional pyramid, so you can't be accused of being racist if you're ripping on an umpire.

I thought Angel already played that card.

There's a group who's post found it's way on my feed today... It literally asked it's followers who is the worst now.

It just amazes me in this stat driven age of baseball, all these "stat heads", and "virtual fans", and websites that pride themselves on stats will all choose to overlook the stats that say Angel was far from the worst umpire statistically. ....Whatever it takes to fit the narrative.  Pick facts that support your opinion, ignore those that blows your opinion out of the water.

and here is the article where it all started. remember prior to 2000 angel was in the NL.

all over a balk call as the (1BU) on Andy Pettitte who doesn't balk (no that is not my opinion of this one as i am not making one, but the apparent opinion of the Pettitte/yankee/ faithful people on any balk called on Pettitte) (11 in career, 1 in NL and 10 in AL), in a Yankee 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on April 30, 2001 in Minnesota, in which the runner did not score and no runs were score by either team in that 5th inning, runner got on base on an error, no error no balk, in a game that went 12 innings, who probably learned this move from Whitey Ford who never balked in others faithful opinion (5 in career).

here is the game. start at 1:13:30, but don't forget to notice the Brosius error at 1:12:50. no error, no balk call, at least in the 5th. the runner, nor Minnesota scored in the inning.

sorry, it may cost you--i can't afford it

maybe this one will work

https://nypost.com/2001/05/01/yanks-luck-all-brad-twins-radke-outguns-pettitte/

and yes it was Friday Aug. 4, 2000 in a 13-6 yankee win in yankee stadium against the Mariners where Angle called that 1st balk on Pettitte, but that did not get the press, or i could not find any like the 2-1 loss to Minnesota and the start of the Torre comments alluded to in 2001.
