SeeingEyeDog Posted May 19, 2024 Report Posted May 19, 2024 I have this hypothetically, nothing actual... Under FED, a fake tag is a one-base award from the last base touched, a team warning for the first offense and an ejection for the player on the second offense. If the fake tag was applied BEFORE 3B, the runner gets 3B. It's delayed dead ball and if the runner is putout advancing beyond 3B he is out. If the fake tag is applied AFTER 3B, the runner gets home and the run scores. It's delayed dead ball again and if the runner is then putout AFTER the fake tag occurring AFTER he touched 3B, the runner is awarded home plate and the run scores. Do I have this correct? ~Dawg Quote
The Man in Blue Posted May 19, 2024 Report Posted May 19, 2024 I would suggest you are missing a little piece . . . You do not have to stop with the one base award. You should advance the runner to nullify what the obstruction caused (a minimum of the next base after the obstruction). If that fake tag prevented him from heading home (safely), award him home even if it occurred before 3B. I'm curious . . . what kind of fake tags do you guys see? I have only ever seen a fielder holding a glove on a sliding runner while the ball sails overhead or rolls around in the outfield. One particular local middle school team will do this at the beginning of the season, almost every season. 4 Quote
johnnyg08 Posted May 19, 2024 Report Posted May 19, 2024 As @The Man in Blue noted, it's a MINIMUM of a one base award. The umpire has the authority to completely nullify the act. 3 Quote
Tborze Posted May 19, 2024 Report Posted May 19, 2024 @MadMax we had to have hit “like” simultaneously! What are the odds Quote
SH0102 Posted May 19, 2024 Report Posted May 19, 2024 I had a play once where batter hit it into RF corner, as he’s coming to second, ball still in RF corner, the SS fakes tag causing batter to slide into second. Action ceased, I called time and awarded him third bc he easily would have made third absent the fake tag . However, had batter immediately gotten up and tried to continue to third and was thrown out, I still would award him third. im not punishing the batter bc he tried to advance beyond 2nd after the fake tag; as others said, 2nd was the minimum award. 5 Quote

That is an incorrect statement. 3rd would be the minimum award. The rule is a minimum of one base past the last legally touched base. Quote
The Man in Blue Posted May 20, 2024 Report Posted May 20, 2024 Technically, the fake tag occurred before 2nd base, so I get what @SH0102 was saying. The technical award would be 2nd base at the minimum (but should be beyond that to nullify the action). 1 Quote
