FED, bases loaded...batter hits a ground ball to the 3B side of the mound, F1 comes down off the mound, attempts to field the ball and it goes through his legs...and then touches U1 in fair territory who started the play in the C position. What do you have, brothers?

The pitcher doesn't count for the "by or through" exception to the rule, so this would be umpire interference, if the pitcher did not deflect the ball.

I have: 1. A question about why this would be a question.

             2. A very immobile ump. Sooner or later we all get touched by a fair batted ball. Seems like this shouldn't have been that circumstance.

I have a third question… are these happening to you, to your partners, or speculated in some sit-around-tailgate-session?

When I umpired, I once got hit with a line drive in C position. It hurt very much, but we stopped play and had the runners on base advance, and the batter was awarded 1st base.

Right, but did you enact that because that’s what the Rules state to do, or because it “felt right / just”?

And did the Runners all advance, or only the one(s) forced to by the BR being awarded 1B?

The situation was R1/R2, so all runners were forced to advance. They advanced by rule, because the ball hit me prior to passing an infielder.

I have a fourth question: WTF is that? 🧐
