I'm guessing a few things:

1. JV baseball

2. The "fans" involved in the disturbance were the parents of the player struck.

3. This is not the first incident woth this coach. I'm sure the umpires in his town have stories.

Gross and un excusable actions by this coach. When they talk about official shortages, this guys picture should be a part of the PowerPoint

#1: 14 year old student is freshman age, so could be a freshman game (instead of JV).

#2: if my kid got hit by a thrown weight by a coach having a temper tantrum, you bet your rear I'd be in that coaches face once I knew my kid was ok.

#3: Yeah, tossing a 1lb weight at a bunch of students isn't likely to be a first transgression...

If anyone hits my kid, I guarantee you there will be a disturbance.

Unbelievable how people can get so riled up in a high school baseball game.  Like life as we know it depends on it. It's an extracurricular activity.

In any game for that matter. It's the root cause of our official shortage, people getting so mad at inconsequential things.

I'm just a casual observer of professional sports now. Years ago, I used to be a big Padres and Chargers fan. Until one day it hit me that my whole mood was dependent on if the Padres won or lost. Why am I getting so wrapped up in sports that it affects my mood? Why am I so invested in a team(s) that doesn't give a crap about me? They just want my money. Was being such a rabid sports fan helping me improve my life, reaching goals, improving my family life, improving my business life, helping me branch out into hobbies that I actually like instead of wasting time and money sitting on the couch watching "my" team play?

If I chose to watch a game, either on TV or in person, I don't care who wins or loses. I'm just there to enjoy the game and my leisure time. As a San Diego State alumni, I was happy the Aztecs made it so far and had a good run in March Madness. Did I watch any games? Hardly. Was I ecstatic when they won, or angry when they lost? Not a chance. Life goes on.

No one needs to get that riled up over a game. JMO.

I think what he was implying is they didn’t *just* have “fan” status, but a higher status that of a parent; which applying all common sense understands any possible & probable reaction/action.

Agree with some of this  But, as a diehard Cardinals fan I will always be involved with my Birds.  When you are born in the St Louis area you are issued 4 things at birth.  Birth certificate, long neck Budweiser, pack of Marlboro reds and a love for the St Louis Cardinals.  Even though we live and die with the Cardinals it will not destroy our lives. And I subscribe to MLBTV just for the Cardinals' games.  Now they list our MILB games for the day, which is pretty cool.

Too funny!

Years ago, we we're visiting my brother who lives in Springfield, MO. We all went to St Louis over 4th of July weekend to see the city, and to go to Busch to see my Padres play the Cardinals. Me, my wife, and 2 sons were dressed in our Padre blue jerseys. We were the only other color in a sea of red! Fun game and great fans. The Arch was pretty cool, too.

The Arch is awesome every time I go to see it.
