Fechheimer Poly Spandex Plate

I have the MLB poly spandex plate pants from Gerry Davis/Fechheimer. 

In the past, I weighted the bottoms of my Honigs & Ump-Attire polywools.

Is that advised with a fabric that is much, much lighter than the Hardwicks polywools from UA and Honigs or should I just get them hemmed a little thicker with an invisible hem and use that as the extra weight at the bottom?

I have the Smitty PolySpandex in Plate and Base (and a rarely used Combo, kept in the bag for emergencies), and I’m favoring them so much, I now have 2 additional sets. The latest Plate pant I got hemmed in a double stitch on the front/shin side so the hem wouldn’t get caught on the bottom edge of the shinguard shell and begin to split, invoking another (costly) tailoring.

Out of a momentary necessity, I ordered in the newly released Honig’s 4-way stretch (polyspandex) pants, and gave them a try. They are a fair bit thinner and lighter than the Smitty’s, and would be ideal ‘cept for being an ever-so-slightly lighter shade of charcoal grey with some mottling blended in. Point is, because of how thin and featherweight they are, I had my seamstress redo the hem and insert a strip of material within the hem to weight it down.

Now, the pants lie much better, and stay down while moving or standing in the wind. They’re great pants, and I foresee using them in Arizona the majority of the time.

After the debut of the Fecheimer plate pants, I have to say that I love the fit in the waist. It's snug and true to size. 

They absolutely DO NOT match the Smitty with respect to color. They're much, much lighter. 

Last night was hot, the sweat through is very visible. 

I'm going to get new base pants, and from those I've talked to, I will not get the Fecheimer base pants, but the Smitty. The fit is better and they're less money too.

I think I would double stitch the crotch area on a plate ( maybe triple) or base or combo pants. I believe the old trick of using small fishing weights to hold the hem down will work also.

I have also noticed that the seat has a traditional seam which makes me a bit nervous for that day that they may split.

When I had my Smitty's hemmed, I had them turn up about 5" of material to add some weight to the bottom. But they're so smooth, they don't seem to catch on my shinguards, so it hasn't been an issue so far.
