I'm getting pissed at myself .....

 

2 outs, .... runners on 2nd and 3rd ..... batter hits a triple to left center field.

Batter runner misses second base on his way to 3rd and the defense successfully appeals.

How many runs score?

More than likely 2. It's a time play.

In reading 9-1-1 ...EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home plate during action in which the third out is made as follows:

c. by a preceding runner who is declared out upon appeal because he failed to touch one of the bases of left a base too soon on a cuaght fly ball; or
d. when a third out is declared during a play resulting from a valid defensive appeal, which results in a force out 

misread / remembered /interpreted ....  

SO .... in "d" ... what would be that situation with a force out?   I understand my situation/question is a TIME play, but .........

The batter is not forced to go to 2nd base, so the out on appeal for missing 2nd base would not be considered a force out. Thus, all runs from the batted ball count, unless the batter was appealed before R2 crosses home. In that case, only 1 run scores.

Ok, I see, so only if a runner who was being forced misses a base is where no runs score .......geez, I got it ....wow

"a" sometimes improperly called a force and actually called a force in a FED caseplay.

Change the play. Same sitch but, R3 misses home.
